Holiday club - Would you expect food to be provided?

If your child attended a holiday club, which would you expect

  1. To have to provide all food / snacks. (i.e packed lunch)

  2. For the club to provide food.

Club is open 9am - 5.30pm and is £25 a day.

When I said never had food I meant main meal

IceRebel · 11/03/2019 20:51

Never had food provided!

But you say they provided snacks morning and afternoon I dread to think what they were eating Wink I assume you mean no main meals? What snacks were provided out of interest.

Snacks in the past have included carrot/cucumber sticks, bananas, apples, grapes, cheese cubes, toast, bagels, brioche, fruit bread, crackers with butter...

The afternoons have usually been a drink with a plain biscuit- digestive, rich tea, malted milk etc...

Catscratchclub · 11/03/2019 20:56

Ours are between £25 and £45 a day depending on activity, none provide food.

Daisymay2 · 11/03/2019 20:58

Its a while since I used them- I used several different clubs for variety. There was a mixture of those providing lunch and snacks, some just lunch and some nothing. Price didn't seem to vary much- except a heavily subsidised one from work that only ran 2 weeks in the summer. I had a fussy eater so TBH I preferred to provide lunch as I knew he would eat it.
I expressed concern at one which did not provide water during the day- but they agreed and changed their position. I also didn't like clubs with tuck shops as they seemed full of highly coloured gummy sweets

Longdistance · 11/03/2019 20:58

No food at all at my dds holiday club.

I work in a prep school, they offer holiday clubs, but there’s never any food. They have to bring in their own packed lunches/snacks

FogCutter · 11/03/2019 20:58

None of the holiday clubs round here provide food, most of them don't even have cooking facilities!

It's fine to provide a packed lunch (and keeps the cost down as the holiday club don't have to employ someone to to the cooking, clearing and washing up).

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 11/03/2019 20:59

Never have any form of food provided.

Mumof1andacat · 11/03/2019 21:03

I pay £32.50 for 8am-6pm. Parents to provide packed lunch. No breakfast or snacks provided

Hollowvictory · 11/03/2019 21:03

We go to 2 clubs one is £25 bring packed lunch. One is £50 food provided.

ValleyoftheHorses · 11/03/2019 21:04

The ones DS goes to ask for a packed lunch but provide snacks like biscuits.
Usual cost is £25-30 per day.

edwinbear · 11/03/2019 21:07

SE London. £30 per day (7am-6.30pm) they provide breakfast (cereal, toast, porridge) and a snack around 4pm (cheese & crackers, beans on toast, crumpets), we provide a packed lunch. Personally, I’m super happy with ours and think it’s great value.

IceRebel · 11/03/2019 21:09

Even outside of London that would be a bargain, £30 for such a long day and then food on top Shock I wonder how they make a profit. Smile

Ours is £25 per day - they provide mid morning and afternoon snacks of fruit, bagels, toast, veg sticks and humoussy things. We provide a packed lunch.

PrincessScarlett · 11/03/2019 21:14

No food provided in my local holiday clubs. Have to send packed lunch.

user1471426142 · 11/03/2019 21:15

£25 seems like a total bargain. My children aren’t school age yet but I’ve just been doing holiday club research to see what is out there and all the ones near me are £35-£45 for the day (8-6 ish) and you have to bring a pack lunch.

anniehm · 11/03/2019 21:17

Depends on what you are offering and the age group. We paid £20 a day including food but was a long time ago, was very basic though, more like nursery.

Penguinpandarabbit · 11/03/2019 21:18

We used to pay around £42 a day and there was lunch and juice provided. £25 seems a bargain to me and I wouldn't expect food. If you can provide food easily might be worth offering a food and drink add on for say £5 to £10 a day like toast/drink on arrival, apple/fruit and drink mid morning and mid afternoon and a lunch like cheese / ham sandwich or pizza slice if can heat, carrot sticks, crisps and a cake.

museumum · 11/03/2019 21:19

Ours is £36/day. 8:30-5:45. It’s run by the same company as breakfast and afterschool clubs do they serve the same breakfast and 3pm snacks. We provide lunch.
Trips out to free venues two to three half days per week.

The trouble with this would be how to explain it to the other children. It could end up very divisive.

Yes our holiday club is £24 8-6 includes breakfast , hot lunch and light tea eg crumpets and fruit.

Bloomburger · 11/03/2019 21:23

Round here it'd be twice that amount for the day without and food or drink supplied.

Dothehappydance · 11/03/2019 21:27

I wouldn't expect food, but then ds only goes to an autism holiday club - imagine trying to cater for a room full of autistic kids. Shock

Petalflowers · 11/03/2019 21:28

Child has to provide packed lunch and snacks. Some venues will provide food (ie packed lunch, or evening meal) for an additional fee
