What does your 3 year old play with daily

We are in a toy rut and I can't decide what new things to buy DS as my budget is limited.

Mainly he plays diggers most of the day or pretends to be a car 🚗😂 The diggers we have are the paw patrol rubbles digger, plus some Bigjigs one from their crane set.

Please inspire me on what to buy .. what does your DC play with on a daily basis ?

They are older now, but at that age it was the brio-style wooden railway and duplo.

randomsabreuse · 11/03/2019 18:53

Lego, toy cars, duplo. Toy cars have tea parties and reenact nursery rhymes and paw patrol stories!

OddCat · 11/03/2019 18:54

When my dd was that age she played with onions ! She had lots of proper toys but always made a beeline for the vegetable rack.

DS is nearly 3.
Wooden railway in 1st place (plus cars to play traffic jams and level crossings)
2nd is toy kitchen and food to play cafes

Have you seen the playdough advert to make a playdough building site? I think DS would love it.

Marmite27 · 11/03/2019 18:55

Orchard Games. Shopping list is the absolute favourite. About £5 on Amazon. Bought it on a whim at christmas and it ended up being her nursery Santa gift. She still praises Santa for it now Confused

moreismore · 11/03/2019 18:55

Wooden blocks, tool bench, ball, alllll the sofa cushions

BikeRunSki · 11/03/2019 18:56

I got the Happyland/ELC spaceship for DS when he was 18 months old. He’s now 10, dd is 7, they refuse to let me put it away. It’s been played with at least weekly for the 9 years we have had it, it’s peak popularity with each child was probably around 3-4.

DoneLikeAKipper · 11/03/2019 19:03

Brio-type wooden railway (Wilko has a £6 set), playdough, and all the cheap little cars that exist. I think we have exhausted Poundland’s choices in little cars. Oh, and Mini Thomas blind bags, as well as anything else Thomas.

MsMustDoBetter · 11/03/2019 19:03

Teeny tiny figures of any kind, the smaller the better. DD keeps them in a backpack and must have about 50.

chiefmummabear · 11/03/2019 19:05

Mine has just turned three. He loves wooden railway track with Thomas battery powered trains, play dough, marble run (although I have to help him build it!) He plays independently for a fairly long time standing at the sink playing with water in the washing up bowl. He likes to wash his cars and all his duplo and fish for plastic fish with a magnetic rod (v cheap online). He also likes getting my yoga blocks and cushions and making stepping stones across the floor - this keeps him happy for some time. I also bring in his small outside slide if he’s bored and he spends a lot of time sliding his cars down. In the afternoon we cuddle up and watch Blippi or Blaze on the I pad!

bedunkalilt · 11/03/2019 19:08

4yo and 6yo now but then, and still now, Duplo. They love the stuff. I don’t cease to be surprised by what they make out of it (I clearly lack imagination Grin). It’s quite good as a toy that can be added to (eg buy a small set, can buy more later, if you have friends or relatives that want to buy a gift for DC they can add to the collection).

I’m sure other big blocks are also enjoyable but you get a lot of variety amongst the various Duplo sets.

dontcallmelen · 11/03/2019 19:10

Dgd is just three, she likes the orchard games, puzzles, playkitchen, garage, play doh, she hates duplo & brio wooden train set with a passion.

HighestMountains · 11/03/2019 19:12

My just turned 4yo loves:
Wooden railway
Duplo
Jigsaws
Marble runs
Toy vehicles

Until a couple of months ago we had lengthy playdoh sessions every day, but he seems to have gone off it recently.

misskatamari · 11/03/2019 19:13

Kinetic sand and playdoh are favourites here, along with jigsaws and colouring in (I print favourite tv show character colouring pages, which the kids love, they're nit fussed if it's generic colouring book type things)

NuffSaidSam · 11/03/2019 19:29

Puzzles
Books
Puzzles
Train track
Puzzles
Tea set/kitchen
And maybe some puzzles...

DonPablo · 11/03/2019 19:35

Mine are older now but the most played with toy in this house was the Quercertti saxoflute that we've added to with the tubations set.

link to the saxoflute-and I've just read the reviews, my mums is there and it's made me cry! She died a year ago and I forgot she left such a lovely review

MerlinsScarf · 11/03/2019 19:39

Jigsaw, track and Duplo have been big successes, along with play kitchens.

Anything with scope for a two part game has been popular, so spending ages getting the play kitchen set up as a cafe and then holding the tea party. Or building tracks then coming up with stories about where the passengers are going, which turns into building a Duplo theme park so the train can drop everyone off there.

snoringdoggo · 11/03/2019 21:27

We play assault courses here, with my cushions and have just come through a vegetable chopping phase. The dog ate well then !

Annoyingly DS doesn't seem into trains at all, he gets annoyed at them coming off the tracks all the timeConfused He actually complained that Thomas the tank was on TV this morning and not Paw Patrol Grin

Thanks for all the ideas, will look at some orchard games and some puzzles of diggers

I'm definitely going to get a marble run and add to the Duplo a bit.

@Camomila yes seen the ad for the play doh construction stuff, will track it down

@misskatamari We have kinetic sand it's genius stuff, especially as we have limited outside space, so no room for a sandpit !

My ds played with his brio train set and duplo at the age. In fact, they’re both still out most days now he’s 6.5 😀.

waterrat · 11/03/2019 21:39

Most succesful toys in this house were Peppa pig toys - got loads on ebay they have been played with so much - the nearly 5 yr old still plays with them sometimes - they don't break either. We have the playground set - very very popular with visiting kids!

Also - WOW Toys - look them up, british made don't have batteries - also played with for many hours by several children. Cars/ ambulance etc.

Imaginext also good - the planes have lasted us years and been played with on and off since about 2 years old through to the 7 year old still plays with them.

These are the planes we have...

Stormwhale · 11/03/2019 21:40

@DonPablo - sorry to hear about your mum. Flowers

MercuryRising · 11/03/2019 21:40

Ds 3 loves playing with Paw Patrol and Super Wings figures, remote control car, kitchen and wooden train set. He has a fantastic imagination and can play for hours.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 11/03/2019 21:44

My ds is 3 next month. He has hundreds of schleich and other animals and he plays with them non stop. Tractors, diggers, lorries, cars, blocks and always animals.
He got a lot of paw patrol stuff for Christmas, the my size lookout tower is a firm favourite and the individual vehicles and pups all get great use here.
He has absolutely no interest in trains. Likes kinetic sand but prefers the real stuff🙈🤦🏻‍♀️
