Why are local shops usually on a corner!?

This is a bit strange isn't it, what is so special about a corner house that makes it good for a shop?

Sorry, under the weather here and mind a bit blown haha.

Bigger frontage and bigger property

Well there's more window space for a start - two walls to put windows in rather than just one.

Frontage! That's the word I was looking for and failing to find.

Are they really bigger? Bigger frontage definitely a good point, my frazzled brain didn't register that!

I also wonder if some of these stores were built into rows of houses in days gone by as people always bought locally so that was factored in by builders?

Because in a terrace, a corner allows the shop to have the full shop front and door at ground level, and a door to the flat upstairs just round the corner on the side wall.

If it wasn't a corner the door to the u/s flat would have to come out of the shop front.

Also a corner makes the shop visible from more directions and accessible to the attached 'junction' roads.
