Is anyone else anxious when it is windy?

I have been irrationally stressed the last couple of days..no reason to be in real life.
I hate the wind. The noise and unpredictability. We are in a loft bedroom and sleep has been poor the last couple of nights.

YES!

When I worked in an office, I used to notice that it put other people on edge, too - only some were more aware of it than others. Also, when I lived next to a school, I could definitely hear more screaming from the kids on windy days!

I am not saying everyone is affected by it - I am sure there are those who aren't bothered. I just that I think it has a subliminal effect that some people are more aware of than others. I'm also very sensitive to changes in light levels.

mrsdolittle · 11/03/2019 09:13

Absolutely yes!!!! I thought it was just me!!!

Am really out of sorts on windy days. Combination of wind and sun seems to particularly unsettle me.

PickleSarnie · 11/03/2019 09:15

Usually I love the wind. The noise is really quite soothing.

But I used to work on the 42nd floor of a building on the waters edge and, when it was windy, the building would move. Pens and blinds etc would shake. Didn't love that much!

CharDeeMacDennis · 11/03/2019 09:21

Yeah, mainly because I worry a tile will come off the roof or something and I'll have to speak to my landlord, who is a bit of a dick.

Also worry it will interfere with the internet / power, which I need for work.

QuirkyQuark · 11/03/2019 09:41

I think my anxiety is increased at the moment because I've slept poorly due to the wind, I've been sleeping in the spare bed in the loft. The noise has been terrifyingly loud and the noise of bins blowing down the street isn't helping sleep.

Camomila · 11/03/2019 09:50

A massive tree blew over onto parked cars outside our church yesterday. It made the local news today. We live 5 mins away and I'm very glad there's only grass by our windows! DS was a bit worried trees might fall on him.

Apparently they've done studies and school kids are naughtier on windy days! I've not been anxious but I have felt a bit grumpy all weekend.

Malibucyprus · 11/03/2019 09:51

My cat doesn't know what to do with herself when it's windy, she acts very weird, always has done since a kitten.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/03/2019 10:43

Any primary school teacher will tell you that children go "wappy" in the wind, IE overexcited, loud, move more...

I get slightly agitated. At ex's after dropping DD back to school, there are trees out the back and they are noisy in the wind.

babysharkah · 11/03/2019 10:45

My dog hates the wind, he can't settle at all.

DH is teacher and says the children are basically wild when it's windy.

Pushpull · 11/03/2019 10:47

When it's very windy, yes I find it hard to settle. Even when everything is safely shut away. It also makes the (foster) dogs a bit giddy

Tensixtysix · 11/03/2019 10:51

We were out walking in the woods yesterday and I said to my DH 'We need to get back to the car...Now!'
I had a weird feeling about the wind, as you could hear it building up in the far distance and luckily we were in an open area by then.
Got to the car just as thunder, lighting and very heavy hail came down and made everything white.
The wind was ferocious and you could hear 'cracking' in the woods.
Lucky escape!

YogaWannabe · 11/03/2019 10:54

I’m so glad to see this (but sorry that you get anxious too!)
DD was with her dad this weekend and every time I got up to go out the wind was terrifying so I decided against it. I was WAY more worried about DD too when usually I don’t give it much more thought beyond “I hope she’s having fun”

YogaWannabe · 11/03/2019 10:55

I actually texted her dad something like “don’t put her in dangerous situations” Confused which surprisingly he didn’t take offense to I would have

havingtochangeusernameagain · 11/03/2019 12:03

Yes because my house is near trees (in my neighbour's garden, in a conservation area, and you need a letter from the Holy Ghost to do anything to them). I don't like thunderstorms for the same reason, I don't want the trees to fall on our house!

Madbengalmum · 11/03/2019 12:09

Hate it, i just worry about the damage it causes and have to put ear plugs in to sleep when its really bad. All down to having tiles ripped off the roof when i was a kid i think.

PoptartPoptart · 11/03/2019 13:59

As BlackeyedGruesome said, primary kids seem to go a bit crazy when it’s windy.
The lesson after playtime on a windy day is never a productive one as they are all so hyped up!

maddiemookins16mum · 11/03/2019 14:26

My cat too. In fact she’ll get stress cystitis due to it 😟

donajimena · 11/03/2019 14:30

I used to hate horse riding in the wind. They go bananas. Obviously I'd never set out in bad weather. Sometimes you get a freak flurry.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 11/03/2019 14:50

It makes me twitchy as well, but it's much more scary driving in it. Not in a car, but some of the HGVs I drive are over 16 foot high. Going over Shap, or even Solway mouth in a westerly...parrrp.

HelenaDove · 11/03/2019 15:45

Three words UK Power Networks.

Glittertwins · 11/03/2019 16:23

Yes - we're also in a loft bedroom so the wind really howls and we have massive trees next to our house with TPOs. Luckily for us, the wind is more likely to blow onto the owners' houses although the roots could be dangerous for us

DarlingNikita · 11/03/2019 16:31

Yes, I find it upsetting and agitating.

Indian Ayurveda is very interesting on this subject.

NameChanger9000 · 11/03/2019 17:24

I worry about the wind because:

A) damage to house - like Char my landlord is also a dick
B) damage to car
C) we'll have a power cut

Deadringer · 11/03/2019 17:32

I like going for a walk on a slightly blustery day, but I am terrified of wild stormy, windy weather. I always imagine the roof will blow off or the windows will blow in, it makes me very anxious. I don't like any kind of loud machinery running near me either and I hate thunder as well.

reallemonade · 11/03/2019 17:34

No, I quite enjoy it, other than when it blows fences over etc
