Good morning everyone. I posted this in 'General health' and got some helpful responses. Just thought I would try here too.
I am starting the screening process to donate a kidney to an old friend. It recently became evident that a transplant would be needed.
Said friend is ambivalent about accepting a kidney from a live donor (not just me, anyone). He says he couldn't cope withe the guilt of causing someone else's health to decline.
I've pointed out that they only take a kidney if you're in tip-top shape to begin with. I keep sending articles about people donating kidneys and then running 10ks etc. He says all those stories are just PR! He's said, 'Do you actually know anyone who has donated a kidney and is now fine?'
I mean obviously there are risks and Ive done all the requisite soul-searching and researching, so I could be entirely certain before offering. But it really seems like the vast majority of people who donate are absolutely fine after recovering.
If you don't mind sharing, does anyone have an experience of donating? Are you fine? Not so fine?
