Does anyone else end up feeling really unwell if they get cold (even briefly)

I’ve realised that whenever I get cold, even quite briefly, I end up feeling so unwell all I can really think of doing is going to bed. Everything hurts and I just feel exhausted.

Obviously normally I just make sure I have plenty of layers, a warm hat etc. But sometimes, like yesterday, I spend longer than expected outside. Only about 20 minutes, and I was wearing a big woolly hat, a jumper a cardigan and a scarf...but by the time I got home I felt really unwell.

Is this something others experience? Any solutions? Or am I just really weird?!

I do too. Most people unless they have a really nasty cold seem to just brush it off and can carry on regardless. Even if I get a slight head cold I feel exhausted, headachey and generally unwell and just want to sleep. I do have a genetic condition which seems to make me more tired than most people so assumed it was to do with this that even a minor cold make me feel like crap. Have you always felt like this? I definitely have. Very annoying.

I think the OP meant cold as in temperature ?
I do but I have autoimmune issues.
Scleraderma and Raynauds which is severe.
Its physically painful to be cold but it doesnt stop people fuckwits telling me I cant possibly be cold Hmm

I think this is normal, it wipes most people out. That’s why ‘cold medicine’ companies are very successful- lemsip, day/night nurse etc.

Yes, cold as in temperature (being outside or in air con office) not as in a cold virus!

Sorry, that’s why I tried mumsnet as googling was impossible as it assumed I meant cold virus.

I get you now. Yes I also feel ill when I am in the cold . I feel lightheaded, sick and shivery. How are you in hot weather OP? I also feel unwell in the heat as I can’t control my body temp well (dysautonomia). Once the outdoor temp reaches 70 I look like I’ve just stepped out the shower as I’m dripping with sweat and my hair is plastered to my head. It’s really embarrassing as well as uncomfortable.

I’m ok with heat, it’s just cold weather/ being in a cold room. I feel fairly uncomfortable at the time but it’s the aftermath I really struggle with - I have to go to bed I feel so totally wiped out by it.

I don’t, I get cold and when I come in and as soon as I've warmed up i’m fine. However, my mother and best friend both feel awful afterwards. My mother has several autoimmune issues, suffers exhaustion anyway, getting cold just makes everything else worse. She will stay in bed for a couple of days to recover. My best friend suffers health anxiety and and now won’t leave the house if it’s cold but if she does have to go out, she will wrap up warm, but doesn’t spend much time outside.

My DF does - apparently it's quite a common side effect of Warfarin.

@passthecheese that’s interesting that you mention autoimmune issues. I was part way through it nvrstigations for an autoimmune condition (sjogrens) when I became pregnant. I have never tried to get the diagnostic process restarted again as too busy dealing with children, but maybe it is related. It’s really frustrating.
