How old was your DC when they learned to aim vomit into a bowl?

Was talking to a friend and we both agreed that it was a complete game changer when they learned that skill.

Dd1 didn't manage until she was nearly 4. Dd2 was not quite 3.

How old were yours?

DD doesn't vomit that much, so she couldn't vomit in a bowl at 3.6 but could at 4.6. And yes, so much easier.

SoyDora · 09/03/2019 20:26

5 year old can, but not sure when she ‘learned’ as I can’t remember when she last vomited.
3.5 year old has never vomited so no idea!

AnotherNightCooking · 09/03/2019 20:30

Well .... I obviously didn’t vom much as a child because at the age of 12 I woke up in the middle of the night feeling sick. I knocked on my mum & dads door & was told to go into the loo.
I did .
I sat on the loo & vomited all over the floor in front of me 😂😂

justforthisnow · 09/03/2019 20:35

My 1 year old was a professional at that stage, born ill and got the aim right around when she could walk, and hover over loo. Very proud, she was a no fuss, targeted vommer. All fine now at age 5, no longer ill but vom skills have stuck.
All depends on how often they puke imo.

chandylier · 09/03/2019 20:43

How much do they vomit?!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 09/03/2019 20:48

About 4. I just used to tell him to do it over the bath - easier clean up than having to scrub it out of the carpet.

Justanothernamechange2 · 09/03/2019 20:59

My niece has Cyclical vomiting syndrome.. she mastered day time aiming pretty young, maybe 2?.. shes now 4 and just started managing to wake during the night and aim.. my sis in law nearly threw a party

Mmmhmmokdear · 09/03/2019 21:01

DD1 still isn't 100% at 8, but she doesn't vomit much so hasn't had much practice.

DD2 is a vommer, everything she gets makes her vom and she's been able to do it since just before she's 3.

Seahorsey · 09/03/2019 21:03

Yeah it was 1-2 here too. A damn bloody shame she had to but my carpets approved

OMGithurts · 09/03/2019 21:04

chandylier it can be quite a bit. DD has had 4 or 5 bad stomach bugs in her 5 years without being a particularly sicky child.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 09/03/2019 21:08

My friend was at her mother's house - wall to wall white carpet - when her two DC began to chuck. They must have been 4-5? And Granny promised them a fiver each at the end of the weekend if they kept the vomit off the carpet. Worked a treat and not that my kids have had that many bugs but I've used the same trick.

ChrisPrattsFace · 09/03/2019 21:11

I mean, I’m 27 with HG and I haven’t even perfected it yet 😑😂

Arewehumanorbones · 09/03/2019 21:15

We get 1-2 tummy bugs per year. Not normally the whole household as I go into full cleaning and isolate mode, but I think each child has had about one per year until about age 5 then more infrequently. 4 children though and there's always a tummy bug doing the rounds at nursery or schools or toddler group it seems.
Youngest child also has a hair trigger gag reflex so will randomly vomit if he has a hair in his mouth, bit of apple skin, coughs too hard, etc never makes it to the loo or bowl though - it's just instantaneous.

Dd vomited into the basin I left out when she was 5 which was last summer. In fairness I was very impressed, I remember still vomiting In bed when I was 17Blush

TheFairyCaravan · 09/03/2019 21:29

DS1 had Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome and would vomit in his sleep so although he was pretty good in the day from a young age we still got sicky beds.

DS2 was pretty reliable from 3ish. He did get Noro at 17 which wasn't much fun as he projectile vomited just as he opened the bathroom door. As he's 6'4 he pretty much got every surface. 🤢

Stormy76 · 09/03/2019 21:32

Mine still haven’t and they are 22 and 18 ......that’s years not months! The last time very disgustingly the youngest primate puked all over the kitchen floor .....right in front of the sink where of course all the cleaning stuff was! Guess who had to stand in it to get to the cupboard [sick]

WoollyMummoth · 09/03/2019 21:37

DD is prone to the puking when she’s off colour and I can’t remember a time when she’s not got it in the bag, bin, bowl hastily offered. DS on the other hand misses any receptacle offered. I’m stayed to think he does it on purpose the little bugger🙄
