Can I use Sudocrem on my vulva?

I've nc for this as it's a bit embarrassing.

I've got some small cuts around my labia, I think from using sanitary towels (I think I'm going to get some reusable ones instead). I wondered if I can use Sudocrem to help the cuts to heal? Obviously its main use it as a nappy rash cream so I assume it must be ok in that general area?

If your skin needs an airing you may benefit from simple maternity pads for a few days. There's a lot of plastic in Always types

Fannybaws52 · 09/03/2019 12:08

I use Nair to remove the jungle that covers my foof and sometimes it causes chemical burns and cracked skin where leg meets vulva. I use sudocreme to help it heal.

As long as you aren't putting the cream inside your labia, you'll be fine.

Disposables exacerbate my excema so I switched to reuseables. I like Red Queen Cloth. If you email them on etsy she'll let you know which fabrics are 100% cotton.

Bodyform are really good, 99p a pack and they are unscented too. I find always scent overpowering and I don't think can be good having that much perfume on your foof, it could also be that causing the irritation/cuts

ChesterGreySideboard · 09/03/2019 12:14

Before I switched to reusable towels I had that problem.
I used to put vasaline on it.

coldshins · 09/03/2019 12:15

For something more gentle try vegetable oil (recommended by a gyne). Either a couple of drops applied directly or an oily bath

Margot33 · 09/03/2019 12:27

Yes that would be fine. I've used always for years and I've noticed that they now make me feel sore. I haven't found any others as good. Let us know what the reusables are like, please.

Somuchroom · 09/03/2019 12:38

Floating lotus for reusable sanitary towels. I love mine and wish I swapped years ago. No more irritation or smells. Had enough of disposables when they started to put scent into my usual supermarket ones and made me sore.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 09/03/2019 13:19

If your sore try pads that are cotton top layer. None of this plastic feeling fluid lock-in core crap. Try always sensitive or bodyform unscented.

Whitegrenache · 09/03/2019 13:24

So to be personal but are you peri menopausal? This could be a symptom of vulval atrophy which will need local oestrogen to improve

LessLivid · 09/03/2019 23:18

I promise everyone on this thread that hasn’t used washable pads that they are fantastic (well, as far as pads go) and not at all gross.
They’re soft, comfortable, not scented, not scratchy, free once you’ve bought them and you’ll save the planet (as well as your ladybits.)

HopeAndJoy16 · 09/03/2019 23:25

For those that use washable pads, how many do you own to get you through your average period? I looked into it a while ago and it just seemed £££ to get started!

I also react badly to Always but find bodyform better.

DrCristinaYang · 09/03/2019 23:30

I've always used Always Ultra, I don't have any problems with them at all. However Always have a new line out called Always Platinum, they are a lot softer.

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/03/2019 23:42

whenever I've had little cuts there (like paper cuts, but excruciating, especially the itch) it's been from candida (yet weirdly I've never had internal thrush).
As long as I take 16 billion viable cells of probiotics a day (works out about 6 a day right now with the brand I'm using) I don't get a reoccurance. If I take antibiotics I up the dose.
But in the first place I had to do the candida detox to get rid of it before I could start the daily habit of probiotics.
Until I saw a nutritionist and learned about candida I had no idea what it was but should have made the link that it often came after too much sugar or antibiotics. Not saying it is this with you but might be worth looking into. As a teenager I didn't use any scented products for years, no bubble bath etc and wondered why I kept getting these little cuts. So for me it came from within (diet and meds ) and not externally

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/03/2019 23:43

sorry just noticed May already mentioned thrush

alltoomuchrightnow · 09/03/2019 23:43

and you can get them without any of the thrush discharge... as with me.

I’ve switched to using reusable - the cheeky mama brand (as we used their wipes). I have 12 in varying lengths that get me through my relatively short period (3 days usually). They are very comfortable and don’t smell / itch / sweat. I wish i’d switched years ago.

boucher3315 · 26/08/2019 22:54

Have you considered a menstruation cup? I use softcup and find them excellent. A bit of a faff to get used to but excellent with a heavy period

Nothingcomesforfree · 27/08/2019 06:36

Yes.
I had similar issues a cut thing that was a bit sore.. I went on the blood sugar diet it cleared up within days.
I do eat sugar now and it’s ok but I definitely get a bit itchy if I eat too much of it.

ImogenTubbs · 27/08/2019 06:48

Agree with some of the PPs - you shouldn't get cuts from sanitary towels, sounds like you may have thrush. Perhaps get some canesten instead. If that doesn't work go to the doctor.

SleepingIsOverrated · 27/08/2019 07:54

Op, could you try a mop cup? I switched to one for the same reason and I'll never look back! It's so nice to finish a period and not have to apply Canesten for the following few days xx

SleepingIsOverrated · 27/08/2019 07:54

A mooncup Hmm because I'm not entirely sure what a mop cup is, but I'm not sure it would help you Grin
