Had Thyroid test 7 years ago, any point having another?

Reading up on something the dr has diagnosed me with, there's a link to under active thyroid, and it recommends testing.
Looking at my record I was tested in 2012, and both tests came back 'normal'.
I don't want to take up an appointment to ask for a blood test if thyroid function doesn't change, so what I'm asking is would there be any point?
Does a thyroid stop working, or just never quite work properly?
I do have quite a few of the symptoms of underactive thyroid.

I had an overactive thyroid 10 years ago and I have a yearly thyroid check. I would book a check.

Definitely get it checked

Obviously I need to be monitored as I had problems before but yes, a thyroid can go out of whack in terms of performance. No harm in asking.

Mine had crept up - had it tested just after I had my kids and it was normal and have periodically had it checked and it's gone slowly up so it's now crossed the line into abnormal. I have had symptoms of 'something' for a good few years, hence why the go throws on the test from time to time.

So yes.

Yes, it can change, I'm on levothyroxine and have to be checked every couple of months. I actually need to take less after the last check.

Of course it can change.

As we age we are more likely to get Thyroid problems.

It's after getting symptoms, you then get diagnosed.

Whatever your reading comes back as, look it up. I've heard that in the UK we don't treat people, that other Countries would.

Of course it can change. Also, make sure you get your actual numbers as NHS “normal” means very little. I feel best with a TSH below 1.

It turns out I've had tsh tested a few times over the year. My practice have recently popped all my test results online! I love a graph, but tend to obsess about health so not sure how helpful it is!
