What do you watch with your early primary DCs?

DS is at that stage (just turned 7) where he needs slightly less sleep and we let him choose a couple of TV programmes to watch before bed.
I'm getting a bit bored of Octonauts and Dora...
We tried Strictly when it was on but no real interest and we do like Sarah Jane Adventures but it's a bit scary for bedtime!
Other than Hey Duggee and DangerMouse what appeals to the adults and less sophisticated children in your house?

Bake off, blue planet, deadly 100 (or whatever it’s called, Steve backshall thing!), Lego masters, films.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 08/03/2019 22:18

Oh I forgot Ninja Warrior, preferably the Japanese version!

MamaLovesMango · 08/03/2019 22:25

Bake off
All the Attenborough docs. She regularly passes out on the sofa to these!
The Crystal Maze
Hetty Feather
Katie Morag
The Haunted Hathaways
The Worst Witch
Odd Squad
Horrible Histories
Cooking programs she especially likes Sugar Rush on Netflix which is mega cheese but bearable.

MamaLovesMango · 08/03/2019 22:25

Oh yes! Ninja Warrior and BGT

OhioOhioOhio · 08/03/2019 22:30

Where are all of Julia Donaldson cartoons available? X

drspouse · 08/03/2019 22:32

Oh I think we might like Odd Squad, and we've read a Worst Witch book and he liked bits if it (though it was a bit long).

Rockbird · 09/03/2019 08:29

ArtisanPopcorn We currently watch the Endless Adventure and Kinging-It. If we feel foodie then we watch Mark Wiens. I'm really surprised but she loves them and gets really cross if there isn't an update. And she's seeing so much of the world through their eyes, maybe it'll inspire her to travel when she's older.

Rockbird · 09/03/2019 08:31

Oh and there's another one called Life Where I'm From which is a Japanese-Canadian family who live now in Tokyo and the girl (about 11 I think) tells you all about life in Japan.

MamaLovesMango · 09/03/2019 12:25

Mine’s really into Odd Squad but word of warning, it gets annoying as fuck.

We’re just about to watch an episode of The Family Cooking Showdown (or something like that). I also go through the TV calendar at weekends and holidays and record films to watch later. Last week was Over the Hedge and Disney’s Robin Hood.

according · 09/03/2019 16:04

@Blankiefan That would be an amazing programme if it wasn't for Gregggggggggggggg.

BitchQueen90 · 09/03/2019 16:35

DS who is almost 6 loves Come Dine With Me and You've Been Framed.

drspouse · 09/03/2019 20:26

Well DD who is 4 loved Do You Know when we watched it this afternoon and I found it really interesting too so that's on the list! (DS was having a grump).

My children love any quiz shows such as Pointless, Catchphrase, The Chase, Impossible and Tenable. They watch a lot of Challenge. Anything with Ant and/or Dec and things involving music like the X Factor or The Voice are also big hits.

Mayvis · 09/03/2019 21:00

Mine are 8&5.

On CBBC they watch Blue Peter, Sam and Mark's Big Friday Wind Up, The Dog Ate My Homework and The Worst Witch.

On other channels, they like Bake Off/Sewing Bee/Dancing On Ice/Strictly. They also like old school Gladiators and newer Ninja Warrior or Total Wipeout. We always watch Pointless as a family.

notsurewhatshappening · 09/03/2019 21:02

Lego masters
Junior bake off
Gym stars
Planet Earth

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 09/03/2019 21:08

My 5 year old always wants to watch Corrie as he knows I watch it when he goes to bed ( school night at 7.30 ) I think it's got too much violence/ sexy talk! He likes dancing on ice and he watches pointless with my mum !

JRMisOdious · 09/03/2019 21:10

Have a dig around in charity shops, see if you can find any old Rosie and Jim DVDs. Best kid’s programme ever (Come Outside was brilliant too. Going back a bit though) 😁

Letthemysterybe · 09/03/2019 21:11

My 6 year old loves blue planet, walking with dinosaurs and horrible histories.

DeathMetalMum · 09/03/2019 21:22

Dengenieers, Pokemon on Netflix. Dd1 will watch anything, she loves bake off, any nature programmes, springwatch/winterwatch when that is on. She also likes daytime tv like bargain hunt and put your money where your mouth is, and the one where they take stuff from the local recycling centre and upcycle it. Hmm she will watch pretty much anything on tv if its on. Dd2 opposite and has 3/4 choice shows that she will sit down to.

dollibob · 09/03/2019 21:45

Wild kratts is brilliant. It's on Netflix and YouTube
