Ocado tie in with M&S

Research published today suggests that many Ocado shoppers see Waitrose as the big draw and will possibly stop using Ocado once they tie-in with M&S from 2020.
I have to say that I agree with this - I don't see M&S as a like-for-like replacement for Waitrose. Waitrose is a supermarket but M&S is all pre-packed veg and ready meals.
If you currently use Ocado, will your habits change?

Here's the article I read: www.theguardian.com/business/2019/mar/08/ocado-may-lose-customer-loyalty-after-ms-deal-dave-mccarthy-hsbc-poll

I don’t currently use Ocado but will probably start when the M&S tie in starts!

From what I can gather Ocado had little choice about losing Waitrose and this was their best alternative

I’ve used Ocado for years. They have grown their own brand stuff a lot. I do though buy quite a bit of Waitrose branded stuff particularly their essentials range. I will probably give it a go but switch out quickly if not working for me.

This could be the event horizon of middle class grocery shopping/

I haven’t used Ocado for a while now but will start again once they start delivering m&s.

M&S ready meals are the only ones I would buy anyway - Waitrose ones are horrible.. ll

I tried Ocado once, they failed to deliver, their customer service was appalling and I thought I had consigned them to the bin forever. But, if they start delivering M & S food, I may have to relent and give them another chance against my better judgement.

ChipsAreLife · 08/03/2019 19:20

I've used them for years and will be staying. Waitrose direct is appalling in my experience.

To be honest I only buy maybe 25% Waitrose own stuff which i think will be easily replaced by M&S. M&S also has a great gluten free range whereas Waitrose is crap so I'm looking forward to that!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 08/03/2019 19:24

I was disappointed at first, I've used Ocado for years and love waitrose stuff.

I'm more intrigued and curious now as to what impact it will have on my bill and I will look forward to being able to easily buy certain things.

If it gets too pricey I will have to change to Sainsbury but I like the ocado model, I rarely have substitutions and they almost always deliver on time.

I dont know if it's related but for the first time I noticed some 'value' ranges in Marks this weekend. Big bag of penne for 55p, huge block of cheese for £2ish. Not Aldi prices but far closer to 'grocery shopping' prices than I've ever seen in there.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 08/03/2019 19:27

I’ll try it but likely will stop using. I buy a lot of Waitrose basics and cooking ingredients and M&S just don’t have the range. I don’t but ready meals or prepared veg, meat etc and that’s where M&S strengths are.

I've used Ocado for years for my weekly shop. I like M&S but do consider it a different price point so don't know whether I'll continue.

My weekly Ocado shop tends to be around £220 but I went to M&S tonight for dinner and some "bits and pieces" (including some eastern eggs and wine) and it was £150
