Doubt I'll win the most exciting thread of the day but.....

Where do you buy light bulbs from?

I always used to get mine from Homebase but the store in my town has closed down. I've just had to buy 6 from Sainsbury's this morning & set me back £25!!

I've had them from B&M and similar stores in the past but those ones seem to need changing again really quickly. I was hoping to find somewhere online really but not sure how they would fair in transit, any success stories?

Unfortunately all our lights seem to be the ones with multiple bulbs in too so it's going to get expensive at those prices.

Just buy a starter pack of Phillips Hue lightbulbs. Yes they are pricy but cuts your electricity bill, is better for the environment and you can change the colours of them and turn them off from your bed so you don't have to get back out when you've forgotten to turn them off!

Seriously , Knowidea? Hmm I have and love the Hue lightbulbs but they cost £45 each for the colour ones! The OP is asking for advice on where to find low cost bulbs.

OP, I have found Ikea bulbs to be good value and long lasting. They also have a smart system like Hue too. I don't know how much it is though but probably a lot less than Hue!

We are really lucky in that our local high street has a proper hardware / general store which sells everything. If they don't have it, it doesn't exist. I bought lightbulbs in there yesterday - normal bayonet / screw ones cost £1.49 each.

£45 for a lightbulb????????

MrsSpenserGregson · 08/03/2019 14:20

For ONE lightbulb?

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 08/03/2019 14:23

I’ve been having exciting conversations about light bulbs with my electrician just this morning.

He recommends Screwfix as having the best bulbs at reasonable prices, and says Tesco ones are rubbish

Backwoodsgirl · 08/03/2019 14:29

We normally use amazon, the Hue bulbs are cheaper there

Cupcake31 · 08/03/2019 14:30

Screw fix :) cheapest and best we have found :)

runoutofnamechanges · 08/03/2019 14:38

Yep, £45 for the Hue colour bulbs, MrsSpenserGregson! The white ones are about £25 each. They are great, they last years, and you can program them to do all kinds of fancy schmancy stuff like gradually dim the lighting at bed time to help you relax or simulate natural light fading in to wake you up, turn on and off when you are on holiday, synch colour effects with the TV or a game, voice control them with Alexa/Google Home etc But totally not what the OP is after...

TellerTuesday4EVA · 08/03/2019 20:37

Nah I'm not stretching to the hue ones, I'd need to remortgage to get enough for this house with the amount of bulbs we have & I was having palpitations at the checkout at £25!!

Thank you all for the suggestions I don't have an ikea close but there is a screw fix not too far away so will give theirs a try Grin

I've just bought bulbs from Screwfix cheaper than I could get them on Amazon

dementedpixie · 08/03/2019 21:58

I got my gu10 led ones from home bargains. I've only had to change 2 out of 9 in the last 5 years

dementedpixie · 08/03/2019 21:59

What type of bulbs are they and are you buying led?

DeathMetalMum · 08/03/2019 22:02

We buy a pack of four from b&q. Just regular energy saving bulbs. I think they're around £12 end up buying a pack every couple of years or so.

TLC or Ikea
