Current Passport Renewal times

Wondered if anyone has applied recently and how long it took? Straight forwards adult renewal here and only sent a few days ago - apparently it's 'in the queue to be processed'.

I'm hoping to fly at the end of April but won't book anything until I have the passport in my hands and find out what's happening with Brexit.

Avebury I submitted online on Saturday and got an instant text to say it was 'received'. I posted back my old passport on Monday, second class and it was received on Thursday (yesterday) and I got a text to say so.

Husband and I did ours online, as we have both changed names since getting married. Sent off recorded delivery on Monday. Interestingly mine had to go to the passport office in Glasgow, whilst his went to Durham. He has just received a text to says his is on it's way back already, whereas mine is still in the queue, so I guess the different offices are experiencing different workloads.

DinosApple · 08/03/2019 16:16

I did mine 10 days ago and I received it yesterday.

Mine wasn't a pre-Brexit renewal, just my old one expires this month.

BackforGood · 08/03/2019 16:18

dd got hers back last week, having been sent off a week before.

Norma27 · 08/03/2019 16:20

I renewed mine last month and took exactly one week. Mine had run out last year.

scaryteacher · 08/03/2019 21:27

The draft EU legislation says you only need three months left after the date you exit whichever member state you are visiting.

DownRightAmazing · 11/03/2019 14:20

Update for anyone interested: text today to say that they've approved my application and photo and will let me know when it's dispatched. So pretty good all in.

Mine arrived there on Thursday and new one was in the list by Monday Shock

ArtisanBaps · 11/03/2019 14:23

Argh - Typo: post, not list

This was in February

Tentomidnight · 11/03/2019 14:25

One week, about a month ago, for a renewal.

Iloveacurry · 11/03/2019 14:25

I renewed my daughter’s child one on 15 February, via check and send at the post office, and got it back in under 2 weeks.

DownRightAmazing · 14/03/2019 13:56

Coming back to this a final time to say I received the new passport today - exactly 7 days since they received my old passport. 👌

Renewed 2 months ago & waited less than 2 weeks for them to arrive back. Very impressed

Avebury · 14/03/2019 18:26

9 days start to finish for mine

strawberriesandsugar · 14/03/2019 22:27

Mine took 3 days start to finish. Name change and renewal. This was last month

strawberriesandsugar · 14/03/2019 22:29

Sorry 5 including posting

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/03/2019 22:31

Filled my forms Monday, they received passports yesterday and current status is application in line

Beamur · 14/03/2019 22:36

Did check and send on Monday, PO people said it would probably be 2 weeks.

Mindfulofmuddle · 14/03/2019 22:37

Applied online for an adult renewal 8 days ago - received new passport today.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/03/2019 09:30

@DownRightAmazing I did mine online last Tuesday and have had emails today to say approved and printing.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 19/03/2019 10:15

I recently renewed both mine and ds' passport and neither took more than a week/10 days from doing the online application so probably no more than a week from them receiving the old passports.

My passport expired in December but I had renewed it in March so under the no deal rules it would have effectively expired next week. Looks like I could have kept it now, but it doesn't matter.

I don't get the 6 month rule. If your passport is valid until a certain day it should be valid until then, not 6 months before. I can understand having a short buffer in case eg you were ill and couldn't leave a country on the planned day but do you really need 6 months? One month should be enough.

MaddieElla · 19/03/2019 12:38

Had an email last Thursday to say mine was in the queue, still nothing. Confused

DH's was much quicker when I did it last month, so I think there has definitely been an influx.

TheRealBoswell · 19/03/2019 15:15

Those who have received their passports, what color was it? Just curious Blush

Orangecake123 · 19/03/2019 15:32

I was in charge of renewing my sisters recently and did it all online in feb. Both came within a week.

UselessTrees · 19/03/2019 15:46

Those who have received their passports, what color was it? Just curious

Got my new one today - still burgundy!

(Exactly a week from them receiving my old passport, just to add to the stats)
