new mattress - ikea?

Hi

I'm currently searching for a new double mattress and some of the delivery lead times I've been quoted are ridiculous (7-10 days).

A friend suggested IKEA might be a good option as they usually are packaged as a roll so easy to transport home and a quick buy option as they are always well stocked in store. I've looked online and there seem to be a few options so I'm looking for specific recommendations - something medium hard, super comfy and long lasting.

We've all got Hovag from ikea. Super comfy. And yes comes in a very convenient roll!

Hovag is amazing.
Comes rolled and easy to transport. We got one for DS1 5 years ago. DS2 requested the same mattress when he got a new bed last year. DH and I treated ourselves to a fancy pants memory foam one but I hated it and begged DS2 to swap.

Just bought an Hovag for dd and she says it is extremely comfy. We used to have a memory foam one from Ikea but I have a bad back and found that one uncomfortable but the sprung mattresses are pretty good I think. Massive plus point that they come rolled up so are easy to transport home.

Another Hovag here - still as comfortable as when I bought it 4 years ago. Fitted in the car easily. (When you undo the roll you have to leave it to flatten naturally for, IIRC, 24hs)

Also chiming in for Hovak, on which I'm currently lounging - we have the same ones (in single size) on DCs bed and they are super comfy. From memory they do them in various different... firmnesses (sp?!l) so worth going into a store for a test. We have medium firm and will be adding a topper when we're flush.

We brought ours home in the back of a fairly small car.

Hovag too.

IIRC it needs a little airing once unrolled and before use as the foam topper has a plastic/rubber smell.

Only took 12hrs to go though. It's all in the instructions

Another Hovag fan here! We have the firmer version and it is the best mattress I've ever had.

Same again!

We all have Hovag mattresses in this house, they're so comfy. We got our European king sized one in the back of a Juke.

OddestSock · 08/03/2019 07:56

We've got a hovag too. We've had it for 18 months and it's still as if its brand new

SlangBack · 08/03/2019 07:56

As we dont have an Ikea, I have always used Argos for mattresses. Our current one is a silentnight pocket sprung,

Delivery is £6.95

It really is very very comfortable.

DS has a hyllestad and we have a hokkason. Hokkason is a bit more expensive (although still v reasonable at £500 for a super king) and softer (my preference) hyllestad is also v comfy. Ikea are great for mattresses.

bluetongue · 08/03/2019 09:39

Had a look at Horvag online and it only seems to come in firm or medium / firm. I hate mattresses that are too hard (my biggest hotel pet peeve). Should I look at something else?

ALemonyPea · 08/03/2019 09:41

If you go into Ikea, you can try all the mattresses, they have a showroom bit for them and the staff are usually very helpful and can tell you what to go for for our comfort needs.

Sunshinegirl82 · 08/03/2019 09:48

Hokkasen (sp?) is softer but doesn't come rolled up. Also a bit more expensive

AliceAforethought · 08/03/2019 09:50

We got two hovag mattresses, one for DDs bed and other for guest bed, and they are fab. We got the deeper and more expensive version for us and its also great - feels well made - strong, supportive and comfy.
