Rid your house of spiders - Guaranteed.

Over the years I have encouraged and farmed into each room about 2-3 Pholcidae dotted around the corners. They never impinge on us.

I never see them, except occasionally when one or two have come out from their lair,
I think, they work as a pair.
Later I might notice a thick black house spider, out from nowhere but clearly in despair.
For a fleeting moment only. Not ever reappearing, like on the wall or a chair.

I see no curled up carcass, legs in the air.
Nor legs torn off lying just there.

I know that Pholcidae has won fair.
My house is rid of arachnids that otherwise scare.

Recommend it!

I like this thread already

Yes! I've always been scared of spiders but never minded the 'daddy long legs' ones. Still used to put them outside though but stopped a few years ago and have had less big buggers since then! Not none, but way less.

SlangBack · 07/03/2019 20:26

So you never see them, but when you do there are 2?

No thanks.

PuppyMonkey · 07/03/2019 20:29

I don’t know what you’re on about, but these Pholca thingys sound a bit scary.Sad

madcatladyforever · 07/03/2019 20:29

Really? I have a few of those in the house and leave them alone as they are the only spiper I am not freaking terrified of. I have seen not one big hairy one this year.

Palominoo · 07/03/2019 20:29

I did this for the first time last year. I am an arachnophobe and have have received treatment in the past to no avail.

I allowed Harvest men as I call them to stay in thw corners of rooms and I believe they deter or kill spiders. I dont want to know how but they do seem to do the job.

madcatladyforever · 07/03/2019 20:29

I had to Google! !

Dockray · 07/03/2019 20:32

Love the little spindly ones and have also adopted some as pets. Live in an old house full of dusty corners and haven't seen one of the big fat hairy feckers in years thanks to them.

Titsywoo · 07/03/2019 20:32

Have a lift conversion! I rarely see any now and we had loads before. An expensive option granted...

Al2O3 · 07/03/2019 20:34

Yes Palo and Madcat I was a sceptic but through experimentation I realise it really does work. The long-legged gentle ones that could never eat us either devour or scare away the think black ones that harm our minds and souls.

I have concluded the gentle ones have a scent the thick ones are repelled by.

I got a kitten. Same result. Not as poetic. Grin

ThunderStorms · 07/03/2019 20:39

I like my spiders.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 07/03/2019 20:42

Sorry, I wish it were true, but I’ve got plenty Pholcidae but I also have plenty of cupboard, giant house, cardinal and false widow spiders every blimmin year. Even had a flipping segestria florentina last year (don’t google fgs).

LilyRed · 07/03/2019 20:45

Thanks OP! Grin

Yes, this, daddy-long-legs spiders, aka pholcidae are excellent spider and bug catchers, I've allowed them in the corners and hidey holes for years - I just wish those wafty webs of theirs weren't so messy

thislidofullofdeadfish · 07/03/2019 20:49

I liked my spiders. The arrival of lidocat seems to have put an end to them. And, more cheerfully, flies.

ApocalypseNowt · 07/03/2019 20:49

Nah. In my old house we'd just moved in and I was in the living room. I saw a pholcidae running along the skirting board and straight into a horrid house spider that was hiding in the corner. Stupid pholcidae turned around and ran the other way. As did I.

That was a horribly spidery house but I did manage to reduce the infestation by about half, maybe a bit more through other means.

PuppyMonkey · 07/03/2019 20:51

But I’m also scared of the thin spindly ones, if that’s what you’re talking about.Sad

Albadross · 07/03/2019 21:04

The spindly ones can cast very long webs over the house spiders, that's how they can get them. Also harvest men are different - they're insects and have round bodies but only 6 legs. I know far too much about this 😅
