DD really poorly today

DD had her 1 year injections yesterday. She cried at the time for no more than 5-10 min afterwards. I gave her a big cuddle and a bottle Which soothed her. She was absolutely fine for the rest of the day.

Last night she was awake on and off alllllll night really upset I've been giving her calpol every 4 hours.

Today she's sobbed all day on and off but more on than off. Real tears and can't catch her breath. The injection sites are red raw and have huge bumps under them. She's also napped quite a lot today and is super clingy and cries her eyes out when I go to put her down

Out of all her other injections she was lucky to barely have any side effects at all.

Any one else have any experience of how long the symptoms may last??? It's awful to see her so upset and I feel useless!!

Forgot to also mention she's had a temp but it's being brought down with calpol. Her eyes are red raw but I'm not sure if that's where she's tired from being up a lot in the night or from crying???

Just noticed her hands and feet are a bit cold too compared to the rest of her body??

If you are worried call 111 or take her to the nearest out of hours GP or walk-in centre.

Definitely ring 111 and get advice. The genral rule with babies is if your worried then dr are worried.

I agree with @bigkingdom. Worth getting her checked over. It's probably nothing to worry about, but let a doctor take a look anyway. They may also be able to recommend different medication for her.

Hi OP, my daughter was like this too, she was fine after a couple of days and calpol. I know it's horrible to see them upset Sad

My youngest always gets the whole lot of side effects with vaccinations and this sounds about right to me. I was expecting it though. She had a couple of days of being unsettled, upset and feverish and then about 7 or 8 days after she came out in the measles rash. To be fair the nurse had warned me about all of this and I knew it would happen for her. You can see signs of mumps about 3 weeks after but surprisingly we got away with that one! I did take her to the GP when the lump in one of her legs hadn’t gone after 3 weeks but was told it can take around 6 weeks to disappear. So for us, what you’re describing is all normal (and still 100% better than the disease you’re vaccinating against!)

I’d carry on with calpol and ibuprofen to Lee the fever down but yes, of you are particularly worried, get some medical attention. The NHS pages on the side effects of the 1 year vaccinations are quite comprehensive and worth a look. They might put your mind at rest a bit.

Medicate for her misery, not for her temperature. Do check out the NHS pages for side effects.

My Ds who is 14 had his year 10 vaccinations last week. I was really surprised how poorly he was the next day. My older son had sailed through them no problem. He slept very badly then woke with stomach pain, headache, nausea and high temp. He felt fine again after about 48hrs. I think there were 30 children off school the next day in his year. Although he felt unwell for a couple of days at least he is now protected and had all his vaccinations.

Thanks for everyone's messages. I was starting to get really worried so I called 111 and they asked me to go to a 24hr gp at the local hospital to get her checked.

They said she's just having more extreme symptoms to the injections and just keep a close eye on her.

She vomited once after a few oz of milk in the middle of the night and has been awake ever since. She still looks really poorly

I just feel so heart broken for her it's awful to see she's normally a happy hyper toddler who's just learnt to walk!!!!!

Any ideas other than calpol or neurofen to help?? What can I get her to eat? She won't eat anything?

Do I carry on with the milk? Just water?? She's having wet nappies

Carry on with the painkillers. I give DS puree fruit when he's not feeling well but just milk will be fine if that's all she wants. Maybe try some toast?

Jackshouse · 08/03/2019 06:39

Give her milk and offer her small amounts of favourite foods but as long as she is drinking don’t worry about food.

MamaLovesMango · 08/03/2019 07:51

Just keep offering milk and water and food if she wants it.

Bigkingdom · 08/03/2019 14:06

How is she now? Definitely keep the fluids up and let her eat if she wants to.
