Work perks

Girlofgold · 07/03/2019 15:48

I'm looking for cost effective ideas/ good ways to provide perks to employees. What kind of perks do people either provide or enjoy as part of their work packages. If you are an employer, which ones do you rate? Thanks!

I work in media/advertising so there are heaps at my work. The best one though are 7 early finishes we can use throughout the year - essentially half days you can take for no reason and not out of your annual leave.

Otherwise it’s the usual - discounted gym, health insurance, fruit baskets, proper coffee machines, drinks fridge (soft and beer/wine), snack cupboard. Etc!

Girlofgold · 07/03/2019 18:27

That's a good one. Thanks!

Oh also flexitime is fab.

ShirleyPhallus · 07/03/2019 18:52

FenceFuckery

That sounds fantastic! I’d love to have that

My company does a yearly social function where they throw money at it (nice but perhaps not possible for you) but the best thing is you can bring your partner and children along

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 07/03/2019 18:55

We have an annual day out but that's it. No free tea/coffee nothing.

Nottsangel2015 · 07/03/2019 19:03

We have fancy coffee machines, office fruit, a ministry of fun committee who arrange monthly fun events/night out/in often with pizza and stuff :-)
We also get lunches in every other month on the Fridays. And an annual company summer bbq and annual Xmas party.
We have a flexitime policy too which is amazing for working around children and also we get 4 work from home days a month :-)
Admittedly not all of these work for every company but I feel really look to have access to these perks :-)

Acopyofacopy · 07/03/2019 19:11

What area is your work in?

DareDevil223 · 07/03/2019 19:44

Public sector here. I get a great pension, free tea and coffee. Work are very flexible with start and end times. I'm too senior for flexitime or time off in lieu but I get to work from home at least once a week. Generous leave and extra days at Christmas.

Great work life balance (they genuinely don't want people to work above their paid hours), discounted gym memberships, lots of mental health and wellness initiatives, social clubs and activities, training and development. Season ticket and rental deposit loans. They also have a childcare scheme but my DS is grown up so not applicable.

I think they do a great job of looking after us.

Whisky2014 · 07/03/2019 19:48

Deffo good quality free tea, coffee and milk.
Flesh working
Good pension
More annual leave days than "standard"

sleepalldays · 07/03/2019 19:49

Proper coffee, flexible working for parents/people with MH/disabilities.

Clean toilets all the time and nice soap!!

Stompythedinosaur · 07/03/2019 20:56

The ability to work flexibly is hugely important and will buy a lot of loyalty.

My dp co-runs a company where the employees don't have a limit on annual leave, and can take what they want. To my surprise, no one seems to be taking the piss with it. I'm not sure it would work in a big company though.

BikeRunSki · 07/03/2019 21:03

Otherwise it’s the usual - discounted gym, health insurance, fruit baskets, proper coffee machines, drinks fridge (soft and beer/wine), snack cupboard. Etc!

I have never come across this “usual”!

I work in the public sector now, so no financial perks, but flexi time is brilliant.

RainbowMum11 · 07/03/2019 21:12

Decent pension, above what will be the standard under auto enrolment from April

Flexible working is the biggest for me though really

Healthcare

EAP

Free tea/coffee, if you like that sort of thing.

HotChocolateLover · 07/03/2019 21:12

Public sector. Great pension, excellent paid leave, flex time, work from home, free tea and coffee.

ChodeofChodeHall · 07/03/2019 21:39

We get five days volunteering leave per year, vouchers and meals out through the reward and recognition scheme (colleagues nominate each other), lunchtime yoga & pilates classes.

PinkBuffalo · 07/03/2019 21:46

Where are all these public sector places that provide tea and coffee?? I've worked in public sector for years, and barley get time for a lunch break, let alone them providing anything like that! We struggle just to get paper for the printer!
Really the only perk we have is flexi time. But that's not a perk at the moment as we don't get to take it and accrue too much.

katmarie · 07/03/2019 21:46

We get a days volunteering per year, a fully paid for family friendly summer party, subsidised decent coffee, cheap gym membership, free parking, life insurance, and employee discount. Listed out like that it seems a lot.

greendale17 · 07/03/2019 21:48

Flexible working, working from home

ChrisPrattsFace · 07/03/2019 21:50

We get milk provided for our own tea/coffee....
And we get talked to like shit? It’s great.

Serious lack of any perks.

Redlocks28 · 07/03/2019 21:51

The head brought in some biscuits to share in 2017 just after Ofsted!

BikeRunSki · 07/03/2019 21:57

PinkBuffalo i’m Public sector, we only got free tea/coffee about 6 years ago, when we moved offices. I’m sure it was a sweetener to compensate for the really expensive parking.

BirdieInTheHand · 07/03/2019 21:59

Pension and health insurance
Flexible working
Gym membership
Paid Parking
Naice sandwiches once a week
Volunteering days
External training opportunities for all employees
Soft drinks
Regular nights out

IWantChocolates · 07/03/2019 21:59

I'm a teacher in an academy. We have a health care plan. I like it!

That's the only perk. Even the chocolates brought in after Ofsted were scoffed by the TAs at break so by the time the teachers realised they were there at lunchtime there were none left. Angry

Littleraindrop15 · 07/03/2019 22:01

Something to do with childcare might be a good call..
