I'm currently recovering from treatment for a tumour in my tongue. Currently in hospital because I was struggling to eat at home. When they do let me out I'm still going to be on quite a mushy diet and I've just been looking on Ocado to see what there might be. The pouches aren't very high in calories so I'm going to end up on loads per day ! Have any of you tried them yourself when feeding your babies ? What are they like ? Or any better suggestions welcomed. Thank you

I do ultrarunning and take the pouches with me on long runs! They are quite light and easy to carry and digest on the go.

The fruit ones (and Aldi equivalent for much less!!) are delicious; I use them as fuel in long distance races.

Wiltshire farm foods sell mousse diet food for adults - my mum got a voucher for 5 days worth from the hospital and it was surprisingly ok she said, you can also make soup of course, or purée your own food.

You can order adult puréed food. I'm not sure where from but my mum had a catalogue to order from when my grandad needed it.

Oakhouse Foods do pureed meals piped to look like the real thing. Can't vouch for the flavor though Thanks

Can you manage goats milk? Poor you, i do hope you get better soon

Jackshouse · 07/03/2019 17:50

Alpro growing up milk and oatly barista are the two none cows milks that are the equivalent of full fat cows milk.

TheFaerieQueene · 07/03/2019 17:51

I’m so sorry you are going through this.

ZebraOwl · 07/03/2019 21:35

I’m really sorry I can’t remember the name of it (I can’t have it due to the severity of my allergy) but there’s a supplement drink available on prescription where the milk proteins have been hydrolysed. I think it has to be prescribed in secondary care, but hopefully from the description your consultant could do it/could get hospital dietitians to do it if you’re now under community team. Really poor dietitians have been trying to push supplements on you if you can’t have dairy. Though it’s frankly ridiculous there aren’t any DF oral supplements available in the UK given how common dairy allergy is.

I use the Alpro Growing Up Milk as a base for shakes. With DF icecream of various kinds in. Tough job, but...

Nutribullets seem to be able to blend everything to mush, would you be able to get one (or similarly powerful blendything) & blitz readymeals that are suitable ingredients-wise? (I ate some blensieved meals in solidarity with a poorly friend when we were younger. It’s certainly an adjustment. Blenseived broccoli is quite the thing to behold, too...)

Hope you can find some things that you enjoy eating & that your recovery generally progresses well. Flowers

Thanks for the pointer re the equivalent to full fat milk. Useful to know (and I will buy). Thanks for your lovely messages of support and well wishes. I'm up to about 1300 calories a day apparently while here in hospital. Much better than the 300 at home - nearly all of which were coming back up !!! I've read all your comments and will be using a lot of your ideas. Thank you x

Will you be wanting food that is not too acidic as well?
How are you feeling I hope you recover soon.
Keep strong I know it's horrible being in hospital.
My son and I like some of the Ella's kitchen ones.
Blueberry and banana
Strawberry and apple
A nice peach one
There's a good mango one
The porridge ones are decent

roundligament · 08/03/2019 14:35

Also there's something called Huel which I know a lot of people swear by for nutrition

EssentialHummus · 09/03/2019 08:14

I also came on to say Huel.
