Above has any success or experience of using lions mane for ADHD or autism?? Been looking into alternative options that might help with ADHD and this has come up a few times.... Be really interested to hear from anyone with any experience!

Btw some mean to offend anyone by putting ADHD and autism together, I know they're not the same, but they (apparently) can share some similarities.....

If something 'alternative' was effective at improving concentration etc in ADHD then it would no longer be 'alternative', it would be the treatment of choice. You don't say whether this is for yourself or for your child, but I would seriously caution against self-medicating yourself or your child with herbs/alternative medicine that is not regulated or properly tested. Stick to conventional medicine prescribed by medically trained doctors.

This is my professional area. For some children, medication for ADHD such as Ritalin has really fantastic results and helps them engage more in school, concentrate more etc. I suggest you contact your child's GP/psychiatrist to discuss if you haven't already.

And no medication will 'treat' autism. People with autism can be prescribed medication for mental health difficulties such as high levels of anxiety (which may result in challenging behaviour etc) but this is the same medication that the typically developing population would also be prescribed.

Hope that helps!

Doctor always knows best... Right? Woe betide you think for yourself.

I don't have any experience of lions mane OP, hopefully someone will have their own experiences and can guide you more. I would say that all because something hasn't been fully researched and licensed, it doesn't mean that it might not be helpful.

I actually think the advice of sticking to stuff offered or suggested by medically trained professionals is pretty reasonable.

No one is saying that doctors always know best but it could be pretty risky to seek other treatments, especially if taking medication, without properly consulting a doctor.

I would suggest meeting with the GP or care team relating to the person with ADHD/Autism and having a proper discussion about it.

NO ONE on a website should be suggesting anyone taking medication we are not medically trained.

Thanks Duggee, good to have input from a professional in the field even if not quite what I was asking! Wink

I know you can't 'treat' ADHD or autism, any more than your can tray someone being left handed out having one foot bigger than the other - it's not an illness. However having read somewhat on the subject of ADHD at least I know there are certain things that some people find/have found helpful, whether that be avoiding certain foods, getting enough exercise, etc, and I am interested in looking into whether conversely certain foods - or in this case, supplements - can help as well; after all we all know the petrol in a diesel car analogy, why can it not be true that changing or refining Our fuel can have a significant impact on our mental health as well as physical? Anyway like I say, I appreciate your thoughts.

Be really good to hear from people with experience of what I'm asking about though, as I say. Grin
