What was your dcs teeth like before braces? (NHS)

Dd has her first orthodontist appointment in a few weeks. I’m so worried that they will turn her down.

She has a really bad overbite, most of her teeth are wonky and she can’t close her mouth properly resulting in sore throats etc.

I added a picture but it’s abit rubbish 😂

I wouldn’t have a clue what grade she is? She’s so desperate for them I’d be
Gutted for her if she doesn’t get them 😩 and I might end up going private.

Do you have a pic of DCs teeth before braces? And after would be fab!

DS is nearly 15 and has had braces for about two years. I don’t have a good before pic but below is the mould that was taken before he started - his teeth were everywhere. He has a small head and just had too many teeth. He had four extracted and is due to have the brace removed this summer. It has been amazing to see the difference. It’s been uncomfortable for him at times but he is glad he persevered.

We're hoping DD gets NHS braces. She has quite a few teeth that are wonky, basically too many teeth for the space (same as me and I fixed braces for about 3 years and many teeth removed, baby and adult). There are a couple of teeth out of view as they're behind and she's recently had a baby tooth come out and I have no idea where the adult one will go!!

We've already decided we'll go private if we have to (no idea how to afford) but it's already affecting her confidence and she doesn't often smile showing her teeth. The front two are also quite discoloured Sad

My dd has incredibly crowded jaws, double teeth (where the adult tooth is coming down behind the baby tooth and wedging them in), she's had to have several removed, and now we have been told that her pre-Molars on both sides at the top are not only back to back instead of side by side, but they're also 90 degrees twisted. Currently waiting to see a consultant orthodontist to decide which of each pair he wants removed and the remaining one twisted into its correct place, plus needs another 2 removed also. I don't think there was ever any question they'd qualify on the nhs though.

thenewaveragebear1983 my DD was the same as your little one. Over crowding, extra baby teeth and had teeth behind other teeth. Had to have teeth removed as part of her treatment too. The orthodontist looked back at her old photos and was very pleased at the change... as were we. Just wished it could have started earlier but it is what it is and she will have great teeth at 16!

Gamba your heart breaks for them doesn't it? She has amazed us all with how incredibly chilled and stoic she is about it all. Dd is 16 in October and I don't think she'll have them on before the summer holidays to be honest. I hope she doesn't have too much disruption for her GCSEs next year.

gambaspilpil · 09/03/2019 08:09

thenewaveragebear1983 it sure does. We were desperate for her treatment to start before high school as we were worried about her being bullied. But it is what it is and she dealt with it well albeit never smiling with her mouth open

Dd at 11 and again at 16 after treatment

That's amazing @TheFrogsLegs!

LucheroTena · 09/03/2019 08:26

DD got them by a tiny amount (0.4mm misalignment), her pre teeth are cosmetically much better than your daughters. I wouldn’t worry. Normally your dentist will have a good idea, ours warned us she was borderline.

TheFrogsLegs · 09/03/2019 17:38

It sure is Holly, we are very pleased.

Aragog · 09/03/2019 17:48

Before and after.

Qualified for NHS treatment no problem.
Though we decided to pay to get them done sooner, and so she could have the white ceramic braces she wanted. Also gave us out of school hour appointments, as our NHS treatment appointments are always between 9am and 3pm.

My son has qualified for nhs treatment. He has a 13mm overbite - not sure what min is but he was well over.

I will miss this grin though

DD, 12 has just had her braces fitted, she was on the waiting list for 18months, and had to have 2 teeth removed. She has a slight overbite and a few wonky teeth.

DS, 15, has had his for nearly 2 years now, he had to have 4 teeth removed and his teeth are similar to DD's. He should of only had them for 12-15 months but he will not wear the bands he needs to now to correct the bite, however I can see his teeth a straight now....hopefully his sister catching up with him and getting her's this week will give him an incentive to do what he needs to do, and have them out hopefully within the next 4-5 months. I cant wait to see the finished result.

rockingthelook · 10/03/2019 19:50

DD had a huge gap between her front teeth, but didn't qualify for free treatment under the NHS, classed as cosmetic, we have used an orthodentist for braces, £1000 just for the top £1795 for the bottom as well. The practice is so busy, especially with older teenagers, there is no stigma at all nowadays about having braces fitted, all they want is a good end result. After just over 7 months, my daughter's gap has nearly closed, a huge difference, we are so pleased

Rubbish @Sertanpyr . The orthodontist has to wait until most if not all the adult teeth are through.
