Only just found out my daughters nursery are dressing up tomorrow 😬

My mind is blank what can she go as? She's only 2 so won't have a clue anyway.

We do have a fairy costume but she hates it and wouldn't wear it all day so looking for something that could be made from normal clothes?!

Any help gratefully received, I've a million things to do and this wasn't on lust!!!

(In interests of fairness/gender equality/wifework, DH is also thinking about what she could go as)

Does she have a red top? Stick some black spots on it and she can be the ladybird from 'what the ladybird heard'. Make some cardboard ears and be the mouse from the gruffalo. If she has green or brown clothes then stickman.

Cat ears/ bunny ears - pick a literary cat/bunny (or cat in hat). Spotty shirt- 101 Dalmations. Ghosts are easy too, basically do up a pillow case Grin. Crown?

Does she have a onsie?
Many onsies are animals, she coudl go in that, find a book to match the animal

Letthemysterybe · 06/03/2019 14:50

Any red pillowcase/sheet? Red riding hood?
Cute dress to be Lola from Charlie and Lola?! Bag of plasters and bandages to be princess pearl from zog?

EssentialHummus · 06/03/2019 14:51

Mr Bump is another easy one (inspired by another thread).

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 06/03/2019 14:52

If she's only 2 does it matter/will she be upset if she doesn't dress up?

Medicaltextbook · 06/03/2019 14:56

If she has something purple and coloured tights could she go as Sophie from the Tiger that came to tea

jomaIone · 06/03/2019 14:59

I put my 11 month old in a blue dress and a red bow on her head - Matilda!

Ilovewillow · 06/03/2019 15:02

Matilda - summer dress, red bow, pile of tied up books!

Acunningruse · 06/03/2019 15:59

Fab ideas thank you!!! The ladybird one could be a winner. Though DH has just reminded me we have a pirate hat so that could be an option too. Knowing DD it will depend entirely what mood she's in tomorrow morning Grin

Pirate hat means you can do the Highway Rat

SileneOliveira · 06/03/2019 16:32

This is NONSENSE.

World Book day is about children celebrating reading. 2 year olds are not reading. 11 month olds have no clue who Matilda is.

Any sensible nursery would be using the opportunity to encourage kids to spend time in the book corner, introduce them to different types of books, even talk about terms like "fiction" and "factual".

But that's not social media friendly in the way a child dressed up is. What a crock of shit.

Acunningruse · 06/03/2019 16:36

Silene, she adores books and loves looking at them, opening flaps etc. But I agree dressing up teaches nothing! Especially for toddlers who crave routine and normality, not why am I going to nursery with a pirate hat on which will most likely get lost

It is rather odd to dress a toddler as matilda when they can't understand the book. I'd stick with pre school books meant fir that audience that they can enjoy

shopaholics · 06/03/2019 17:41

Dressing up adds fun to learning - at my nursery we're bringing in the book so we can read it and discuss it with the child. It is an expense many parents hate but it can be done cheaply, such as just wearing normal clothes and adding things such as a black dress and a witches hat leftover from Halloween.
11month old babies can definitely enjoy being read to so book day is a beneficial day that's been going on for a century to encourage reading.

EssentialHummus · 06/03/2019 17:52

Another easy idea, for fans of the That’s not my... series. A plain t-shirt with “That’s my baby! Its ears/hair/tail/ is/are so fluffy/soft/shiny” written on. (Can’t tell if this is the laziest thing ever or actually a decent idea Blush.)

Lwmommy · 06/03/2019 17:55

Send her in pajamas and she can be any bedtime story

Orangedaisy · 06/03/2019 17:55

Our nursery also announced it today. DD1 (4) is going to school as Silky from the faraway tree. DD2 (just 2) therefore also wants to be a fairy. She’s the one from ‘that’s not my fairy’. We have a lot of fairy outfits. I didn’t influence their choices at all Wink

RedSpottyKettle · 06/03/2019 19:28

DD is going as the butterfly from the very hungry caterpillar. I’ve no idea what I’m going as and time is running out.
