Should I change driving instructor?

I've just started learning to drive. I'm coming in late (34) and want to learn as quickly as I can, ideally doing 2 lessons a week.

My driving instructor has cancelled 2/4 of our lessons so far with very short notice. I'm only doing 1 lesson a week, and with the cancellations it's more like 1 a fortnight. I feel like that's too long a gap. He did warn me he'd need to cancel sometimes if someone had a test coming up but cancelling half my lessons so far, with very little notice, feels excessive and bodes ill.

Would it be wrong of me to book a lesson with another instructor to see how I get on and then if better to switch over? I do like my instructor but I feel like he's so unreliable.

I agree ,too long between lessons . If it were me I'd change ,and also invest in a couple of double lessons .

If you're anywhere near Dartmouth/Totnes I can recommend a terrific
instructor .

Definitely change. That's really unfair. For a first test an instructor would give a pupil dates and times they were available so shouldn't need to cancel another pupil. If it's happening a lot then presume it's for resits which doesn't bode well.

I hadn't thought about resits!

I'm going to book with another instructor. I'm sick of having to rejig my plans to accommodate his cancelling.

I've got a lesson with another instructor tonight. If I want to dump the current one any tips on having that conversation?

Do you have more lessons booked with your original instructor? If not then you don't need to do anything. If you do then just cancel it, by text if necessary and say you will be in touch if you want to make any further bookings.

Good luck with your new instructor.

Have you paid upfront with original instructor? If not just send a nice 'thanks but no thanks' message. Peoples tests shouldn't cause your lessons to be cancelled. Tests are generally booked quite far in advance, even resits - or they are in my area anyway! One lesson a fortnight is no good for anyone learning to drive.

I've got a lesson booked with him tomorrow, not paid upfront. I'll see how it goes with this fella tonight.

Yes you should change!

Mine has never cancelled on me and gives me 2 weeks notice when she can't make a session. Yours is being really unprofessional.
