This I'd my biggest grumble about being a single parent...

I know there are much bigger problems in life but i really really fancy some chocolate. There are no treats in my house at all and I can't nip out to the shops.

I realise many others might experience this too, eg partner working late.

My exH would always have gone to the shop if i fancied something.

Its all i can think of now.

There really is nothing worse in terms of first world problems. I'm in the same predicament as you tonight.

Thequaffle · 05/03/2019 20:37

You need to create an emergency stash.

Doyoumind · 05/03/2019 20:38

It's one of those things that people who aren't single parents don't understand. When you have young DC you can't just pop out to the shops or anywhere. I remember going a very long time never leaving the house after about 5.30.

Catscratchclub · 05/03/2019 20:38

Amazon prime do 1 hour delivery to some areas and has saved my arse many a time..... they deliver gin. And Jaffa cakes. Look it up now and see if they will deliver you dairy milk!!

Samind · 05/03/2019 20:39

Do "just eat" restaurants/takeaway places not have desserts etc? I'm sure some do when I've scrolled through the app menus. Depends where you're from though. Just a thought Wink

HollowTalk · 05/03/2019 20:42

Some taxi drivers will do emergency runs in these situations.

Aaaahfuck · 05/03/2019 20:43

There should be a charity for this!

PottyPotterer · 05/03/2019 20:45

Not much use now but just remember one day they'll be old enough to go to the shops to get your chocolate Wink

Gingerkittykat · 05/03/2019 20:47

That's when you break into the stash of Christmas/Easter/Birthday kiddy chocolate, safe in the knowlede you are saving them from the evils of childhood obesity.

(not that I have ever eaten the chocolate before it was gifted and had to go out and buy some more!)

Heatherjayne1972 · 05/03/2019 20:47

Secret stash
It’s the only answer

Blankiefan · 05/03/2019 20:47

Do you have ingredients for a Mug Cake

Mumshappy · 05/03/2019 20:50

I have a secret supply too.

Feelingtherain · 05/03/2019 20:52

I did think of Deliveroo but not sure I can justify the cost of minimum spend and delivery charge. Ditto a taxi.

I got excited about reading about the one hour Amazon delivery but just checked and it doesn't cover my postcode. Annoying as I'm in a city. Sounds great though.

PottyPotterer I hadn't thought of that! Eldest not far off.

My own fault, I haven't got the willpower to keep an emergency stash.

mug cake is a genius idea, thank you Blankiefan Smile

Youngandfree · 05/03/2019 21:08

@Doyoumind I’m not single and I know exactly what it feels like...I’m on my own for 3 weeks at a time (every 3 weeks) and I always want a Chinese (we live too far out for delivery) or chocolate when I can’t 😩 it sucks

Feelingtherain · 05/03/2019 21:23

Yes thanks Blankiefan. I used the last eggs for pancakes but I might try that another time

I should be glad I have milk. the first year alone I ran out several times and I hate knowing there'll be no cuppa in the morning.

Re milk I always have uht in the cupboard.
Yes to building up a secret stash.
Also have a good stock of medicines.

I’m one of those annoying married women with a shite husband. Sorry to have had an input.

soulrider · 05/03/2019 22:24

You don't need eggs for a lot of mug cake recipes, e.g. www.tablefortwoblog.com/the-moistest-chocolate-mug-cake/ (you can omit the chocolate chips/nutella if you don't have them)

42andcounting · 06/03/2019 18:19

I know it's a bit late now, but for next time.... Do you have any friends with teenagers? I have an agreement with my friends DS &DD that they will nip to the shop and deliver emergency crisps, chocolate etc of an evening - the delivery charge is one of whatever I'm having Grin

RedTitsMcGinty · 06/03/2019 21:01

I am in exactly this predicament tonight. And I don’t trust myself to keep a stash in my flat because I’d just eat it when it wasn’t an emergency.
