Best way to remove underarm hair?

My GP has forbidden me from shaving (my preferred method) due to painful red bumps under one of my armpits, she says caused by the razor making tiny nicks in the skin which then get infected (I thought it was hydradenitis suppurativa, and I’m still not entirely convinced it’s not...)

Anyway, I am going to follow her instruction and see how it goes. I plan to use Hibiscrub on the existing lumps to try and clear them and leave well alone with the razor.

Does anyone else avoid shaving — and if so, what is your recommended method for hair removal under the arms?

I may also try a more natural deodorant - so if anyone has any recommendations for those too that’d be much appreciated!

Laser.

I had mine done years ago and just have a few light colored stragglers now and again.

ThierryEnnui · 05/03/2019 17:36

Thanks @lego - did they do it all in one sitting?

Laser! It's fab. I've had about five sessions now. You do have to shave before the treatment though.

I avoid this by not shaving my pits Grin

I like Nuud for a deodorant (note, it's not an anti-perspirant). It's pretty gentle (just cream and micro silver particles, and works incredibly well (I only apply twice a week)

Fluffyears · 05/03/2019 18:31

Waxing, if honestly isn’t as bad as it sounds but it does leave you smooth.

nombrecambio · 05/03/2019 18:41

Waxing... but only once your pits have recovered.

kaytee87 · 05/03/2019 19:00

I'd leave it until your skin has recovered before trying any other hair removal methods

fatpatsthong · 05/03/2019 19:20

I know you say no shaving but I switched to an electric shaver from a wet shave when I had similar. It's not as close and so I find doesn't irritate the skin but it's close enough I find.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 05/03/2019 19:22

I avoid shaving by not removing hair. I do occasionally shave when it gets too long for my liking but it’s not so bad when it’s a once off.

Rowgtfc72 · 05/03/2019 19:52

I use an epilator. Hardcore Grin

WhoWasIt · 05/03/2019 22:48

I don't do anything with mine except for plaiting it in the summer. Sometimes I even put beads on the end of the plaits to match my top Grin

Desmondo2016 · 05/03/2019 22:51

Phillips lumea. 4 treatments, at home, 10 days apart = No hair at all!

FiveLittlePigs · 05/03/2019 23:21

@WhoWasIt Grin

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 05/03/2019 23:26

I use an epilator. Hardcore grin

Fair play to you. Tried it once, honestly worse than childbirth.

dontblameme · 05/03/2019 23:52

Epilator. It's awful the first few times but now the growth is much reduced and I hardly feel it.

MaudeLynne · 05/03/2019 23:59

Try pit-rok, it's kind on the skin, allows you to sweat (which is a good thing, but takes a day or two to regulate) but stops any smell.

MaudeLynne · 06/03/2019 00:00

And it's not for hair removal

QuimReaper · 06/03/2019 00:03

Epilators are easily the best way! If you've had them waxed a few times it's easier, and after the first couple of times you can't even feel it any more. It's so convenient, takes a couple of minutes about twice a month.

I'd love to get them layered though...

YorkieTheRabbit · 06/03/2019 09:18

Layered?? Is that so you could style it better Grin

QuimReaper · 06/03/2019 11:46

Yorkie Grin

Long layers are in this season, haven't you heard? Best style for that lovely bouffant look everyone's after Grin

I went for the no no hair remover for a while

Gave up eventually because for my purposes I might as well just shave.

It works very well though, burns off the hair and that limits regrowth, I did find I had to do it less often as time went by. There is no pain with it either which is good.

Downside is that you want to do it in the bathroom with the window open and any fans on, and with the door closed - it stinks of burnt hair which is really unpleasant.
