Well this is embarrassing, is it a blood blister in an unlikely place?

I’m so embarrassed, I’ve just been to the toilet and discovered what looks like a blood blister on my labia. Blush Could that be what it is? How....what....why....?! Help!

It isn't a blister. It's a harmless red skin mark that I'm sure has a name but I'm not sure what - they're quite common anyway and nothing to worry about.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 05/03/2019 00:13

Haven't had antibiotics lately have you?

Backseatonthebus · 05/03/2019 00:16

I would just get it checked out to be on the safe side. No-one on here can tell you it is harmless unless they are medically qualified and have examined you. There is one particular skin issue that can look a bit like a blood blister and it needs to be diagnosed quickly. Obviously it's incredibly unlikely that you have anything nasty, but best to get it seen.

No antibiotics for a long time.

I had one of those and poked it with a sterile needle, it bled like buggery. I 'm not sure if it has come back but I'm too fat and inflexible to look.

Prequelle · 05/03/2019 07:14

I would get STI checked.

Please don't go poking it with anything.

NoTeaForMe · 05/03/2019 07:26

Well thank goodness I found it last night as it popped this morning when I wiped after a wee (TMI sorry!) Would have been very worried had I not seen it last night. Do I need to do anything now?

Erm, actually I’ve just checked. Although it bled it’s still there.... BlushBlushBlushBlush

It might be some kind of cyst. Any pain?

Tomtontom · 05/03/2019 09:19

How big is it?

NoTeaForMe · 05/03/2019 09:27

It’s a couple of mm that’s all. A bit itchy and I’m conscious of it but I think that’s more because I know it’s there not actual pain.

Ingrown hair?

Prequelle · 05/03/2019 10:04

Herpes
Ingrown hair (or folliculitis)
Cysts (various causes)
Cancroid
Syphilis
Granuloma inguinale
Trauma from rubbing

These are just some of the things it could be. It's worth getting checked out especially as the word blister immediately rings herpes alarm bells (sorry I don't know your sexual history so this may not even be a risk factor for you but it's something we take into consideration)

NoTeaForMe · 05/03/2019 14:41

I’ve looked at pictures of herpes out of interest and it looks nothing like that. Also I’ve been married for 10 years and that’s really not a factor. I know things happen but it’s really not a factor for me.

This is what it looks like - other than where it is!

It’s bleeding again. Quite a bit of blood for such a small thing...!

OP posts:
Megan2018 · 05/03/2019 16:07

Are you sure it is not an ingrown hair? I have had ones go like that and bleed a lot if knocked - they sort as soon as the hair dug out.

Backseatonthebus · 05/03/2019 16:23

Please do get it checked out, just to be on the safe side.

TroysMammy · 05/03/2019 17:17

Mine was probably caused by being a bit too cavalier with a razor. I had yearly smears for 8 years and if it had been anything sinister the Practice Nurse would have mentioned it.

NoTeaForMe · 05/03/2019 17:32

I haven’t taken a razor down there for a while Blush
It’s still bleeding. I’ve had to change my oantyliner as I’d gone through it. TMI again sorry.

Have you been cycling lots?!

MumofTinies · 06/03/2019 14:27

Herpes could be a factor, if your husband gets them on his mouth he could have transferred it even without a sore being present, so don't rush to chuck your husband out if the Dr does say it's herpes!

Meredithdorothy2016 · 27/03/2020 12:07

What happened with this? I have one too.

Yellredder · 27/03/2020 16:55

Could be a cherry angioma?

Danielle8p · 25/09/2022 14:45

@Backseatonthebus what is the other thing that needs to be treated quickly?

Angelofthenortheast · 25/09/2022 15:14

I had the exact same thing and got it checked at gp's. Was in there for 2 seconds, she just said "cherry angioma". It disappeared after about 2 months
