Uplifting book as a gift

My lovely friend is going through a fairly horrid time atm and is stretched to breaking point. She has no time for herself and is supporting others constantly.

Obviously I have offered support but there are limits to what i can realistically help with. I am trying to encourage her to put some time aside so thought I could get her a book to try and give her something to escape into (may be a bit lame I know but I want her to know I'm thinking of her).

So ideas for comforting, gentle and uplifting books. Probably fiction. Doesn't have to be new but should be well written. She's quite funky and arty and a tiny bit of a geek god love her. Early 40s. Bit of a feminist.

My go to is Angela Carter - maybe nights at the circus but any other ideas?

Some of Neil Gaiman's stuff maybe? Stardust and Neverwhere both have an element of escaping into something. I loved The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton by Anstey Harris as well (very different from Neil Gaiman!).

What about This Book Will Save Your Life by A.M Homes. Or The Memory of Running by Ron McLarty. Both brilliant.

Tuesdays With Morrie, or Five People You Meet In Heaven, both by Mitch Albom.
