Leaving 10 week old baby?

My DD is 11 and competes in a team. Her team is travelling to Paris to compete and stay in Disneyland for the weekend. This is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity, or if the team does go again it is clear it won't be for a few years. She is going, currently staying with a team mate and her family.

She seems happy with this arrangement, but would prefer me to go. The trip is next month and I am still undecided whether to add myself on. I would love to see her compete and support her but I have a baby who will be 10 weeks. Baby will be well looked after for the weekend with older sibling as DH will stay at home. I'm not breastfeeding. But really worried baby will be unsettled without me (though has bonded exceptionally well with DH and he is very hands on). Also feel ok about going just now but worried when it comes to it I won't be able to leave such a young baby, but want to support my DD. Feel like having to choose, WWYD?

Would you not consider taking the baby with?

PotteringAlong · 04/03/2019 19:07

I’d go and take the baby

I left DS home for a weekend when he was 8 or 9 weeks old. He didn't miss me in the slightest.

I'd say go, enjoy some one on one time with your DD. If you're really stressed about it and want to go, you could consider bringing along the baby. What does your DD think of that idea?

This is an option but having looked at the itinerary it is very intense, long days and the stadium itself is not really suited to such a young child.

I considered us all going but my husband cannot get the time off work (my mum would watch the baby that day who I trust completely and who has babysat before)

If you're not breastfeeding and your DH is capable and hands-on, then I see no issue in leaving the baby for a weekend.

What about you, mum and baby go?

fauxhuman · 04/03/2019 19:11

But I also think you could leave if not breastfeeding

Tbh I think it would be fine to go

I'd go and take the baby. Baby will sleep in a sling and you will have a lovely weekend with your daughter. They are so portable at that age.

Also my thoughts are kind of this - your DD will remember you being there/missing out. The baby won't remember being left with grandma and dad for a weekend. Might be worth it for this once.

@rtmhwales that's a very good point, and i'm competely sure the baby will be well looked after. I'm just worried when it comes to leaving that morning, I'll really struggle or that once we are separated I'll find it a lot more difficult than I think
