Things to do of an evening

I'm stuck in a rut.

Background- DH works away during the week so it's just me and DD9. I work full time.

I'm home most nights by 5. Make dinner (just for me as DD eats at MIL's) and clean up so find I'm 'done' most nights by 6/630. With only 2 of us here and being out all day, the only tidying tends to be the kitchen and the odd load of laundry.

I'm finding that once DD is in bed, I'm sitting twiddling my thumbs so generally go up and watch TV in bed or read or something. I need to find a hobby/activity that can interest me and keep me downstairs and stop me from going up so early. I'm not a massive TV watcher but do have Netflix and Sky.

Can any of you help me get out of this rut?!

Go out with your DD, do something together to break up the boredom. Do you drive? Does your DD do any after school clubs like Brownies, I used to go for a coffee with other mums before we returned to collect, so I had some adult company.

My friend and her DD go to a mother & daughter dance class with other ladies called clubbersize you could check online to see if there is one near you, and email to see if they’re happy for your daughter to join in.

Or you could go swimming together, select a night midweek and make it a regular night out, our local leisure centre is open till 10pm on a weekday.

Have a craft night, beading or card making, embroidery, learn a new skill, there are loads on YouTube.

You need to have something to look forward to rather than just end up upstairs and getting into bed, although now I’m older there is nothing wrong with that😂

Thank you - you've hit the nail on the head there. I'm so bored I just go upstairs.

Thank you also for your suggestions. I will certainly take some of those on board. Only the other day we were talking about swimming so I need to get the timetable and get onto that.
