God I’ll probably sound crazy - weird smell in nose

I washed my hair today with those blue disposable nitrile gloves which often have a weird/toxic smell but I’m generally use to it and it fades after taking them off

(I wash my hair with gloves because I have dermatitis and the shampoo detergent will worsen it)

Today I was in a rush and instead of walking to the train station, I took an Uber instead. When I got in the Uber the car had quite a weird smell like a mixture between that toxicy glove smell and smoke. (There was a no smoking sign so don’t think it could have been that)

I didn’t say anything to the driver. Left the car and felt better in fresh air, but now it’s been 2 hours and every so often when I breathe in I can smell that weird smell Confused

The Uber driver had a highish rating, and I noticed my rating had gone down from 4.64 to 4.59 so now I’m paranoid do I smell of this strange smoke smell or is it in my head Confused I don’t have a sinus infection, nor does my nose feel blocked

I’m sorry this will probably sound absurd and confusing!
Never experienced anything like it

I had something similar - for years on and off I would get what I can only describe as a 'burning rubber' smell in my nose. At times it was so bad I had to breath through my mouth instead, and I couldn't taste my food properly either, it had the horrible burning rubber Smell mixed in.

I went to the doctor when it first started happening and they looks at me like I was mad!

I've never found an explanation for it.

OP, I would ask for a referral to a neurologist. A burning/smoky smell isn't normal and there can absolutely be something else going on there. It's called anosmia and it can be unsettling even if it doesn't happen all the time.

Get it checked out by a specialist. I wouldn't expect a GP to know all there is to know about neurological issues but I would expect them to acknowledge that and refer me to somebody who does know.

Extremely sensitive sense of smell was my earliest sign of pregnancy.

It seems a bit of an over reaction to request a referral to a neurologist after one day of a funny smell here and there. Perhaps see the gp if it carries on, but I wouldn't go to action stations yet!

I didn’t realise till now that Uber users were rated

Stormwhale, Do you always post like that, about something you have no experience or knowledge of? So pompously too. My anosmia was one of several episodes and did show up neurological anomalies that led to a diagnosis of chronic illness.

Feel free to continue to demonstrate your ignorance though.
