Bits of Cardiff are lovely, some lovely villages in Monmouthshire, depends what you want really

ValiaH · 04/03/2019 13:45

Swansea is nice, beach, mountains, town centre, museums, easy access to the m4 for cardiff and bristol, plus easy access to West Wales for holidays and day trips. Research the areas well though. There are a lot of good primary and secondary schools too if thats a concern.

Swansea.

You've got the Gower one side with some truly amazing beaches and scenery, and the other side is the Brecon Beacons mountains, so there's always something to do, whatever the weather.

I adore South Wales and can't think of anywhere better to bring up children.

Lots of lovely areas to live in South Wales. Gower is beautiful and some great areas in and around Cardiff. Depends how much you want to spend and what you're looking for really.

Whyareweallhere · 04/03/2019 17:14

Thanks all.

Looking for somewhere cheapish. Main thing we want is a garden that’s not small really.

And of course an area that’s not rough. Are there any areas to avoid?

There's good and bad in every area, OP, but if I had to stick my neck out I'd say to avoid Blaenymaes, Townhill and Mayhill in Swansea.

CouldntThink · 04/03/2019 17:20

Monmouth and surrounding areas are nice. Depends how rural you want to be.

Palominoo · 04/03/2019 17:22

Be aware that most of the Gower is mainly one road in and out so is a pain in the summer.

If you move nearer to the M4 in Swansea you can still access all the beaches easily but will have more easy access to everywhere else.

AS the above person said, avoid places ending in hill and Blaeynmaes.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/03/2019 17:23

Cowbridge is nice.

Porhcawl.

Pembrokeshire. Safe as houses, beautiful beaches, good schools and lovely peaceful lifestyle. I never lock my car or house. In fact the only downside is that it rarely snows in winter as it's so close to the sea

Lolimax · 04/03/2019 17:34

I live in the Caerphilly Borough. Some good schools, property much cheaper than Cardiff, good transport links and very friendly people.

Thankyou everyone. Much appreciated Smile

Bridgend. Very affordable and a bit of everything.
Easy access to M4. Miles of greenery and beaches.

Penarth, Dinas Powys, Cowbridge (all in the Vale of Glamorgan) are nice with very easy links to Cardiff.

Certain parts of Cardiff itself are also absolutely lovely too.

CouldntThink · 05/03/2019 10:06

What’s moving you to South Wales?

I grew up in a village which is lovely but I wouldn’t live there now. Too rural. Although the snow days when I was at school were great.

ShivD · 05/03/2019 10:18

I grew up near Swansea (not a Jack!) and I I’ve going back and we toy with the idea of it quite often.

Gower is expensive if you want a lovely house, close to the sea. We’d be moving from the outskirts of London and it’s not that cheap.

I love the Towy Valley around Llandeilo but lots of the primary schools are welsh speaking.

Where are you moving from? Do you have school age kids? These would all be important considerations.

It’s a lovely way of life but it’s very, very different from larger city living.
