Giving up alcohol for Lent

Fazackerley · 04/03/2019 07:00

I did dry January and felt so much better. I don't drink much, probably a bottle of wine a week, but it makes me feel sluggish, plus it's empty calories and I'm trying to lose weight.

I like to have a challenge so thought I'd use Lent as an opportunity not to drink at all. It runs from March 5th to April 18th - eek.

Anyone else?

Would be too easy! But I’ll give up daytime social media with you?

Fazackerley · 04/03/2019 07:15

Oooh now there's a challenge! What is daytime exactly?

So you still get to browse when the kids have woken you early and after they go to bed as much as you like.

Ok I'm in. It's going to be very hard.

There are so many bad habits I could give up for lent! This year I’ve chosen spending on myself for non essentials. Online time, snacks, alcohol could also all have featured!

Remember the main point of lent is to reflect, not punish so if you generally feel drinking less is better, then just make the change permanently but occasional slips should be expected to avoid a prison mentality.

I’d have a LOT more reflection time if I was off social media!

I’m also athiest so will reflect but not in a religious sense.

Fazackerley · 04/03/2019 08:29

I definitely need more reflection time! Long walks with an audio book help

i'm not sure about my faith, it comes and goes but a period of striving to be a healthier, kinder person is built into so many parts of the year, it doesn't seem a bad thing to observe. Yes, must kick mumsnet habit...
