Emetophobe in meltdown

DS12 had just been sick for the 3rd time. DH is on a night shift so MIL has come round as luckily for me she understands this bloody phobia.
I feel like I am about 3 seconds away from a panic attack which won't help anyone. Why can't I be normal and go and sit with my son like any other mother would. He is amazing and I am so proud of the way he is coping but I feel like a really shit parent.
It is DDs 4th bday tomorrow and all plans are going to have to change. I am also sat here working out who will catch it next and how long we may have before that happens.
Sorry for going on but I am struggling as you can probably tell.

I actually stopped going to soft play because of my emetophobia, one tip I picked up along the way is to avoid touching your face when there's a bug in the house, touch wood, it seems to work. (it takes lots of self discipline though)

We won't be going back that's for sure.

OP, I really feel for you, another phobic here. The anxiety can be terrible. How is everyone now?

hazandduck · 04/03/2019 23:07

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie that is my DH all over - so casual about it and NEVER gets sick! He’s eaten a raw chicken kebab on a drunken night out before. He realised half way through. Kept me awake for days with worry! And of course he was fine..!

Don’t you just envy those type of people? I wish I had DH’s brain at times.

Love your username btw 😄

You definitely have my sympathy - emetophobic and dealing with mild morning sickness here. How is everyone? Are you coping ok? Thanks

BlueCornishPixie · 04/03/2019 23:31

Hope everyone's a bit better today OP Flowers

I'm emetephobic and just the thought is making me feel panicky. I haven't got any DC yet but I've always worried what I would do if they were sick. I'm really not sure I want DC as I am so worried if I did have DC they would get sick Sad

It's probably a bug, keep washing your hands and dont touch your face or mouth with them. Do you have multiple bathrooms? Could you keep one to yourself?

This is one of those times for the classic MN phrase "this too shall pass". It's just a sickness bug, you will be fine. In a couple of days it will all be over. You've just got to get through today. If it helps I always sleep with a towel and bucket by my bed if there's a sickness risk, just in case. And I would obviously do the same with DCs. Plenty of towels everywhere, that way if you need you can just throw out the towels. You will be absolutely fine, it's horrible but it will end, you can get through it.

I find it worse when it is other people, if I get a bug I find I am okay. It's horrible but I trust myself. It's others that I really don't trust, and the worry that I too will catch it.

You poor thing op - you have all my sympathy.
My dh is working away at the moment so I thought I’d enjoy a series. I asked a friend for a recommendation and she said ‘Succession’. I asked my usual question “are there vomiting scenes?” To which she replied “definitely not”.
OMG. About half way through the first episode there was the grimmest vomiting scene I have ever witnessed. I cant stop thinking about it and keep having flashbacks.
Emetophobes stay well away from Succession.
I stupidly bought the whole series - what a waste of money as I’m certainly not going to watch any more episodes.
