What is Germany like to visit?

Particularly Berlin and surrounding places like that?

I find German men extremely attractive. It's the accent.

The food is supposedly amazing. I adore pickled and pickled things. And the bakeries are rumoured to rival French ones.

I'm going to show how extremely uncultured I am by asking outright, what do most German people think of WWII, Hitler and Jews? Granted, some Germans are obviously going to be Jewish.

I feel somewhat subconscious going. I look Hispanic and my family are from Gibraltar (I live in the UK and have from birth), but I have close Jewish ancestry. My great grandmother was a Jew.

There is a somewhat nervous train of thought in my head about it all. Does anyone really harbour any sort of anti Jew feelings? Apart from a very small minority?

Apologies if I've caused offence. I'm sure Germany is wonderful and the people are over all very friendly.

For what it's worth, I find Gibraltar a strange place at times, with even stranger characters at large Grin And less friendly than Londoners

Hmmm have you been drinking?
Of Course not they are very respect of Jewish remembrance , although No mention of Nazis .
A quick google search would tell you a lot .
Find it strange the mention of Gibraltar in the same post .

scream No, I don't drink. Tired though from a baby.

Why is mentioning Gib strange? I'm just showing that I don't think everything is perfect where I originate from. I find both the British (London( and Gib people, in general, a bit rude at times with no patience. The nicest place I've ever visited in terms of friendly people was Liverpool.

Thank you for your kind words about my city Midwifey, I don't mind the odd German man myself Smile

I get the impression that the Germans wish to distance themselves from Hitler's deeds as much as possible. Hate speech is a serious offence with severe punishments. You have more chance of encountering a neo-Nazi in this country than you do over there. You'll be absolutely fine, don't worry.

I was all set to answer but you're fucking weird.

Ditto the ads.

I've lived there 7 years on and off but as an army dependent.

First time on base with parents, was quite young so don't remember much, second time off base with ex.

I absolutely loved living there. I don't know Berlin, but in general the people were absolutely lovely, very friendly and welcoming, very supportive if you try to speak German, the food and drink is amazing (and I'm veggie too so people thought I'd starve!) ex was a fussy bugger and even he loved the food. Very clean and tidy (they're very hot on this & recycling), great bars and restaurants. I felt very safe on nights out too.

Hope you have a great time.

Berlin is absolutely brilliant - I've been a few times, and always had a blast. There is loads to see and do, and Berliners are incredibly laid back and friendly - when I went out on my own, I was always invited to join groups of German people in bars and restaurants.

The only other place I've been to is Munich, which is a beautiful city, and a convenient base for visiting the famous castles nearby. I found the people not quite as welcoming as those in Berlin though.

I was going to say that the country is amazing, and I’ve always found the people friendly, but that Bavaria is more conservative than much of the north.
I do like Munchen, Heidelberg and Koln, (can’t work out how do do accents) lots to do and see. I haven’t explored ex-East Germany, the various friends I have there are all in what used to be West Germany.

Snap! It's amazing, isn't it? Definitely the friendliest place I've ever been to. And there are so many people who are interested in the arts, too - I kept having arts-related conversations with strangers.

OP did you know that descendents of German Jewish refugees have the legal right to become German citizens? And that tens of thousands are doing so? There are anti-Semites in every country, but I really think you are less likely to feel uncomfortable in Germany than in many other countries (although of course its terrible history is very sobering).
