She's quite quirky and cool - the total opposite to me in fact!

Budget is £70 ish.

What does she like, though?

Sculpture, roller skating, ducks? Theatre, tattooing, guerilla gardening??

Singlenotsingle · 03/03/2019 17:42

I was going to say can a garden party with string quartet, but not on £70! Confused

IggyAce · 03/03/2019 17:48

For my friends 40th last year I wrapped her up 14 different presents and she opened one a day in the 2 weeks before her birthday. I put a little message on each, she totally loved each gift and the idea of getting a present a day.

I went to Mykonos to celebrate my 40th with my sister then when I got back I went out to dinner with my best mates followed by drinks.

One of my friends celebrated her 40 th with afternoon tea.

It depends what kind of person your friend is, what she enjoys & what your budget is.

tierraJ · 03/03/2019 18:07

Sorry just read £70.

Are you confused by me only having £70 to spend for friends 40th Singlenotsingle? That's all I can afford I'm afraid, though I think a garden party with a string quartet is a tad over the top ...

My sister had a party in a tapas bar, everyone paid £15 & she paid for bottles of wine to be put on the tables, a friend made an amazing cake & everyone got drunk.

tierraJ · 03/03/2019 18:11

So you could use the £70 towards some wine & cake & decorations & the birthday girls food then get everyone to pay for their meal & buy any extra drinks they want in a (not too expensive) restaurant like my sister did?

HarrySnotter · 03/03/2019 18:18

She's already having a party and a load of us are also going for afternoon tea the week before her birthday. I want to buy her a gift to keep too. I'm beginning to feel like a tightarse ...

Why is everyone assuming you’re talking about a party/doing something! Fairly obvious you want gift suggestions I thought?!

Jewellery
Nice bag
Tickets to a show/event

Need to know more about her likes/hobbies/taste though to be more specific.

HarrySnotter · 03/03/2019 19:05

I was thinking along the jewellery line Prosecco, maybe Thomas Sabo or similar?

I've bought one of my friends a 40th gift from Monica Vinader, it's a lovely bracelet

Purpletigers · 03/03/2019 19:15

Some artwork ? I’m sure you could find something lovely for £70 . Try etsy

Purpletigers · 03/03/2019 19:16

There are some lovely paper cuts on Etsy . I bought one for myself but it would be a lovely gift for a friend . I think it’s a company called mimi ?? I’ll have a look

wheresmyhairytoe · 03/03/2019 19:17

£70 is certainly not tight!

I'd get some nice jewellery if you know her taste, or a posh bag.

Purpletigers · 03/03/2019 19:18

Does she like gardening ? What about some trees ? My siblings and I joined together and bought trees for my youngest brother for his fortieth . He wants to plant out an orchard with fruit trees .

wheresmyhairytoe · 03/03/2019 19:19

And I'd be very puzzled by a garden party and string quartet but I don't move in the circles where that would be normal!

Singlenotsingle · 03/03/2019 19:37

A friend's DH organised one for her 40th, and no we don't move in rarified social circles. In their garden with BBQ food in summer

HarrySnotter · 03/03/2019 20:03

Ah well, end of March in Scotland a bit nippy for a garden party. 😂

She does lovely silver jewellery, so I'm sure I can get some lovely earrings or something?

Everyone loves nice earrings.

tbf, reading the title, it does sound like the OP was asking about what she could organise for her friend's birthday.

Personally I think £70 is a HUGE amount of money for a friend's birthday present.
