To sort your health out...?

I’m in a bit of a rut: over weight, unfit and I catch every cold going.

I’m fed up with this. My focus, for years, has been to lose weight... but for whatever reason, it hasn’t worked.

So what do you do to stay healthy?

I’ve bought a soup maker and thinkdaily vegetable soup is a good idea yeah?

Also considering a nutribullet (how noisy are they?) to get loads of vitamins in.

I just feel the need to be HEALTHY. Not skinny, just glowing with health from within.

Top tips needed!!

Add more fruit, veg and water to your diet (try and make it half of your plate). Move more, even if it’s just going for a daily walk. Start with small changes then build up.

More water is definitely required.

I’m in the midst of a cold right now, it’s day 10 and showing no signs of improving! I have zero energy.

Anyway, Monday is my day off so after school run I dragged myself out for a walk. Had a fruit smoothie for breakfast and butternut squash soup for lunch.

Would daily fruit smoothies and veg soups tick a load of boxes nutrition wise???

I started running a few months ago. Slow jogging to begin with. Like this'll:

From thinking running really was impossible for me since school days and cross country, wheezing my way along, I found I could manage a 30 minute run on the first day of trying using this technique decades later. I naturally got faster and now run with a weighted back pack.

I got a FitBit and use it to track food and activities. Make sure I am at a calorie deficit. Initially to achieve this just cut my portions in half and added salad or green veg if I wanted a fuller plate of food.

Stopped eating sweet things apart from special occasions.

Started taking cold baths to improve circulation, brown fat and reduce inflammation.

Have lost just over 2 stone since late June and my fat percentage has gone down 7 percent according to my electronic scales.

A balanced diet, incl healthy protein at each meal. Watch your portion sizes. Google what portions of each food type are for an adult. Drink at least one litre of still water daily (excluding tea/coffee), as thirst and hunger signals are often confused.

Reduce dependence on starchy carbs and ensure you the carbs you do eat are complex carbs. Not too much fruit daily but lots of green/rainbow veg to fill you up and keep your gut happy. Porridge with nuts/seeds and/or a whole fruit portion made with water but with full fat yoghurt for breakfast is your friend and will keep you satisfied for hours

Keep snacks small and lower calorie - a portion of non-starchy soup is great for this. Record everything you have to eat and drink - various apps available which will not only show you the amount of calories taken at each meal/snack but also the percentage of nutrients in each.

Move more- if you hate the gym just build more walking into your day, eg walk up and down the escalator if commuting, get off the bus/tube a stop or two earlier if possible and walk the rest of the way. Take the stairs not the lift as often as possible. If you like Zumba or aquarobics that can be a fun way of exercising.

Record the amount of exercise you do daily - again record on an app do you can see your weekly results.

Good luck!
