I'm looking into changing my car. If you have a small city car, I'd appreciate hearing what you like or dislike about whichever model you bought. I'm particularly keen to get something with good visibility at the rear - lots of cars seem to have smaller rear screens nowadays, with rooves sloping down at the back.

Another Panda lover here. I bought it as I needed to do lots of local travel in my own car for work, so needed something economical and I also needed something roomy as I am vair tall.

I had a peugeot 108 which was absolutely shit, like a tin can on wheels. I voluntary terminated it yesterday for a VW Polo which I love already.

I’ve got a Fiat 500. Agree with previous poster about it being a Tardis with the seats down. I’ve managed to transport a mattress and 6 foot standing lamp in mine before.

I’m on the motorway pretty regularly with my citigo. I’ll sometimes leave it in a lower gear when on an uphill slip road a bit longer than I should do so I get to speed to join the main carriageway.
My model doesn’t have heated front window or mirrors and that does annoy me, I park mine on the road and it’s a pain in the arse deicing it with DS in tow.

Also love my aygo. It's a bit wobbly on the motorway if it's really windy but generally it's great.

Also for PP with manual locking issue - I just use my key fob to lock the doors.

We hired a fiat 500 for 3 weeks and I must admit, I loved it. Felt like driving a go kart, no oomph what so ever and almost never reached 70 on dual carriage way but so much fun to drive.

Parking was a dream and visibility was great.

The downsides were the lack of rear space for passengers and it seemed to get a lot of condensation inside, might have been the non opening sun roof though.

We have bought a mini clubman now as there are 4 of us, 2 teens but I would consider a fiat for city driving if it was just me and DH.

Skoda Citigo!

I've had a Skoda Citigo SE Greentech. It's 1.0 litre and 75ps. I LOVE it! It's really easy to drive and park. I worried about the size (as I originally wanted a Fabia) but it's like a tardis inside and the boot size is enough for my needs.

Most of my driving is town, village and rural roads. I track my petrol and average about 55 mpg (between 50 mpg and 62 mpg). Having said that I take it on the motorway every now and again and it sits happily at 70.

Lots of steep hills here so I went for the 75ps (which I would recommend). The only thing I would change is to have four doors. I have two doors and they are very long so quite difficult getting in and out the work car park!!!

I like my smart four four - it feels really roomy & plenty of space in the back, although bear in mind it doesn't have a middle seat so you can only have 3 passengers.

Visibility out of the back windscreen isn't great but you get used to it & obviously have the parking sensors.

The boot is very small however I'm not sure how it compares to other similar cars having not seen in them! I would imagine pretty much the same? There's enough space for shopping bags etc. The seats can completely fold away so it makes a very large space in the back if you ever did need to load the car up.

tinyradish · 03/03/2019 10:32

Meant to say I got the Smart for the five doors - getting a baby car seat in and out meant that this was a priority for me. :) plus much better for passengers.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 03/03/2019 11:53

Oh @tinyradish! Can you get a pram in yours? We don't have children yet but it's on the cards and I'm constantly wondering if I'll fit a pram in it somehow?

IndigoDream · 03/03/2019 16:01

Thanks again everyone

I have an Aygo. £20 a year road tax, cheap to insure, 2 weeks running about on a tank of petrol (£32-ish), easy to park.

Yes the boot is tiny but the seats fold down and I have the 5-door model so I can fit in plenty of shopping and 3 bags of horse feed! It also comes with sat-nav.

What's not to love??

YouBoggleMyMind · 03/03/2019 16:15

Love my C1. Can fit my babyzen yo-yo buggy in the boot with room to spare. DS is in a rear facing toddler seat with isofix with no issue.
Cheap to run, cheap car tax. Small engine so does sound a bit like a tractor sometimes but I'll be sad to see it go when I have to change it!
