I've been absolutely stuffing my face with all the wrong foods lately so I'm looking for some healthy (but tasty!) replacements. I'm just so drawn to chocolate & cakes 😩

Any suggestions?

I spread fruit purée and fat free yogurt on rice cakes, although there are plenty of flavoured rice cakes that taste nice enough to be eaten plain. Sainsbury’s and Asda sell Kallo Blueberry & Vanilla Rice & Corn Cakes. If I’m on the go, I’ll have a small bag of sweet and salty popcorn. I buy the Metcalfe’s skinny one - nothing artificial and sweetened with stevia.

If I’m really hungry, I’ll have a sachet of porridge as a snack. A sachet mid afternoon will keep me going until well after the dc are in in bed! I use sweetened almond milk and find that I don’t need to add any extra flavour.

If I have a chocolate craving, I’ll have a cup of Options Hot Chocolate. If I’m just craving something sweet, I’ll have sugar free jelly.

Occasionally I buy Alpen Light cereal bars. I’m a sucker for the chocolate orange flavour, whilst my DH prefers the salted caramel. DH also likes malt loaf and that’s his snack of choice.

tomatoes, bananas, satsumas, grapes, dried apricots, apples.

Cashews, almonds, avocado, chunks of cheese with something lower calorie like rice cakes.

Apple slices or cucumber sticks with almond/peanut butter

Chunks of cheese or handful of nuts

Little pots of skyr/siggis yogurts

Hard boiled eggs with a little bit of mayo

Things that will keep you full are your friend so think high fat/protein. So things like: boiled eggs, apple + peanut butter, cheese, hummus and veggie sticks, cottage cheese, greek yoghurt with blueberries and some flax seed and flaked almonds, or just a straight forward handful of almonds. Oatcakes and Cheddar are good too.

Frozen bananas. I don't do ice cream anymore so it's a bit of a substitute, and it can feel more filling than just eating a banana as it takes longer.

Also you can drizzle melted chocolate over them afterwards but that's probably not a good health tip Grin

I'd avoid all the "diet" foods that are full of artificial sweeteners. Go for a slice of rolled up ham, chunk of cheese, sugar snaps, handful of cashews, pumpkin seeds etc.

What Normandy said. Also I sometimes have porridge made with water plus stevia and plain yoghurt for supper with a few almonds in (no fruit) and build that into my calorie budget. If I don't need it fab as I'm down by those few calories. I often find I sleep better with the porridge also. Daytime snacks also include a nice apple (eg Braeburn or Pink Lady - thinly sliced and chewed slowly) with a very small piece of mature cheddar plus a cup of tea, or a strong hot cocoa (not drinking chocolate as that's usually got sugar pre-added) made w skimmed milk and a few almonds. Also l try sipping a large cup of still water if I'm peckish or about 20mins before a meal as often the thirst/hunger signals can be confused. Good luck!

Also no longer eat milk chocolate but good quality dark from around 70% cocoa solids. Montezuma is a good one but Waitrose have their own "single estate" type dark chocolate going up around 90%.

when even a nice juicy Comice or Williams pear doesn't really do it I have a couple of squares of 73-85% dark chocolate. Lovely. If you can't bear dark chocolate then have two or three Agen soft prunes - delicious!
