What simple thing could your clients/service users do to make your job easier?

Little things that they don’t realise would make your daily life just that little bit better but are very easy for them to do.

For example - not wearing a massive hair clip or having hair in a bun or wearing a cap when you are going to lie down in the dental chair.

Simple. So what’s yours?

Know your own address and postcode. Know the name of the person who will be there when the delivery driver turns up to deliver your very large, very expensive, business critical item, and ffs tell that person that it is coming and that you ordered it!

Also know that if your location is on one of the streets within the London lorry ban zone, then no, I cannot deliver something on the back of a hgv to you before 7am. Simply not possible.

Please ensure your old units are empty and dry before trying to return them. I do not enjoy spending the day covered in various, highly flammable fluids, swerving dermatitis and stinking of diesel.

They could definitely do more stuff themselves, or the family could learn. Then the service wouldn't be stretched so thin and other service users wouldn't have to wait so long! Such a sense of entitlement.

Title their email with something vaguely indicative of the content and urgency.

Like, don't title three successive emails "issue" when they are about three completely different topics. Don't title an email "Call me" with no other body text in it - I am not your slave and there is nothing less likely to endear me to call you. Don't title an email "Re: unrelated topic from three weeks ago" and then go on to describe some extremely serious & sudden problem that is preventing your company from trading.

I work in software support.

Reading letters which they have received instead of coming in saying ‘I’ve had this letter and I don’t understand it’ I generally read it to them and they say oh ok

If you come in and ask to make an appointment, have some idea of the day or time you would like instead of looking at me blankly when I ask this question

Cancel your appointment if you can't make it, instead of just not turning up.

Put your dog in another room if I'm visiting you at home. I believe you, your dog is lovely, but it still might get upset if it sees a stranger examining you!

Wear clean underwear.

Lower your expectations to a realistic level, that way you won't be disappointed when something doesn't happen as quickly as you wanted and ring me and yell at me.

(It is something I or anyone else has absolutely no control over whatsoever)

Don't lie to us when we are doing a 6 week initial plan. I build the work I'm going to do around what you have told me. If what you have said is untrue I've wasted all my planning time and have to start again.

Let us know if you are going to cancel a session. Another child could have that time.

Just stop it with the disguised compliance. We know what is bullshit!

Fill in the bloody request form clearly. I don't know where your patient is and i need to know some basic clinical details in order for me to do the best I can for them (and you). 'Unwell' is not a diagnosis.

Not take drugs weed does not stay in your system for over a year and show up on a swab and cocaine is not added is tiny amounts to our water

You will be caught and hopefully before it has a detrimental impact on your mental health so you don’t have to be recalled back to hospital

Appreciate that I'm not here asking them not to do something because I want to make their lives miserable or show them up in front of their mates, I'm here because I want to get paid and that is conditional upon my making sure they don't damage themselves, each other or the expensive equipment I could never afford in a month of Sundays and maybe, just maybe, learn something that will be useful to them in terms of happiness, enjoyment, a future hobby, career or in simply helping them realise that there is more to them and to life as a whole than what they have experienced by 14.
