So I have to stop drinking Diet Coke. I am addicted.

I have previously stopped for several weeks at a time and then I'll think well you can control it now but it's a slippery slope. I drink it daily, usually 2 - 6 cans a day though less if I'm with my husband Grin. Some days I realise that's all I've drunk.

I've always justified it by the fact that I don't drink tea or coffee, I don't smoke, hardly ever drink alcohol and rarely eat sugar/flour/simple carbs. I've felt a definite sense of what the hell can I have if I can't have my diet coke fix plays tiny violin

But I'm embarrassed when I drink it, feel sure people are laughing at me/know, feel annoyed when I give in after deciding not to etc. These are all signs of something to do with Diet Coke leaving me not in control. I need to get a handle on it. And I think the only way to do that is to stop entirely. I'll have other diet drinks sometimes too and I can sit and drink a litre or two of lilt zero in an evening no problem. It's just not good for me and doesn't make me feel good.

Further I've recently read some research about how sweeteners affect the balance of your gut bacteria to promote a particularly type of bacteria which is linked with metabolic disorders and being overweight. If I ever want to lose the last 2 stone I've got to change something.

Who's with me? Who's been me??!

Well done on day 4. I'm on day 2. I think all sparkling drinks are bad for your teeth, even sparkling water. I think it's the citric acid, although I'm happy to be corrected. I'm thinking of treating myself to a 500ml bottle of coke or doctor pepper this Saturday? Or is that a bad idea?

I'm not planning to give up coke completely, just to have it as a treat, rather than everyday, three times a day!

Hello! I've just finished day two, I have given it up for Lent with the intention of either carrying on or just having 1 or 2 at the weekend. I'm doing okay but keep forgetting to drink anything!

Can I join you? As of now no more diet coke for me.
I have given it up before but went back on it about a year ago. I also don't drink tea or coffee, and as I don't eat sugar, diet coke/pepsi is my 'treat'. But it makes me feel lousy.
Last time I got off it by drinking PLJ with iced water. I like lemon water and found the PLJ more convenient that cutting up fresh lemons all the time.

I'm on day 7.

Trouble is I've eaten more sugar. I normally don't. Obviously drinking diet coke was keeping my sweet craving checked. I need to be careful and really resist replacing it with chocolate etc.

I feel utterly miserable today but seems crazy it could be linked. Not sure what's causing my low mood though.

Do it.
I gave up all fizzy drinks for Lent about 10 years ago and haven't gone back. The family Ds and I were drinking a whole tray of coke each week so I just stopped buying it. I was tough for a while. But now I find it too sweet and too gassy so don't bother.

I gave it up 14 months ago, drinking up to 6 cans a day.

i was getting dreadful stomach aches and felt lethargic. (was drinking diet).

DH challenged me to give up for NY.

Since then all the stomach issues i was being investigated for (including gall stones) have disappeared. it is extraordinary!

i’ve slipped once, i had one full fat coke (never used to drink that EVER) at a work event when recovering from an upset stomach. Frankly it wasn’t nice but i needed the sugar!

DH bought me a soda stream. In love it. I have it with sugar free lemon juice called Pj’s(i think) and although i now drink more coffee, our grocery bill is much lower. People are shocked when they come over and realise i don’t drink it anymore!
