What’s the smoothest/least bumpiest car you’ve travelled in?

Looking for a new car, and it needs to be the smoothest least bumpy due to spinal injury. Kind of SUV type for the seating position.
Hit me with your recommendations before I get distracted by sales patter that that garages car is the smoothest on the road!

Executive saloons are usually good for this - like the Mercedes that the chauffeur people use. Maybe there is a Mercedes SUV??

I recently got a Mercedes GLA, which is a smaller SUV. I love it! Really smooth and not bumpy at all. This was after testing lots of cars.

I broke my back many years ago but also a horse owner so need a 4x4. For the seating position and obviously the horse stuff!

SUV / 4x4 aren't bumpy as such, it's the stability you look at in my opinion.

I've owned the following 4x4's:

Mercedes ML - very comfortable but can be a bit boaty in corners. A leisurely drive
BMW X5 - a stiffer ride, which I prefer, a fun drive.
Range Rover - bit like the Merc but you need super deep pockets.

Those cars cost money and unless you're rolling in it, aren't cheap to run. But if I had the choice again it would be the X5

I've started looking at the Kia Sorento. It's smaller, cheaper, reliable but still has a nice seating position. It's just not as fun to drive

Any luxury car. The more expensive the better.

My Mitsubishi Outlander phev glides. When using the electric it pulls off so smoothly. Very gentle ride.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 01/03/2019 14:44

My Skoda Karoq has very good and adjustable lumbar support, good seat adjustment, high driving position and I can slide across to get in and out. I have back problems too and need to be high up and well supported.

PaddyF0dder · 01/03/2019 14:46

Electric cars are generally very smooth drives.

Extremely (insanely) pricey, but the Tesla Model X would do the job if money is no object.

LiveThisLife · 01/03/2019 15:12

Thanks all, not quite Tesla price range!
I wonder if the normal outlander is as smooth? Thanks, hadn’t considered the BMW, will take a look as well.

My Zafira is lovely and smooth. Not terribly flash but really comfy.

Longdistance · 01/03/2019 16:42

My dh has a Mazda CX-5. It’s pretty nippy, great height wise. It’s a company car, so it’s going in a few weeks time sadly.

lablewhore · 01/03/2019 16:48

BMW X3. Smaller than the 5 but I find it really smooth. DH has bad back ( degenerative Disc) and he loves it.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 01/03/2019 17:04

Ooh watching with interest as cat journeys trigger my neuralgia. Are there any small cars that are quite cheap that are smoother than a clapped out leaking Vauxhall’s corsa?

LoopyLu2019 · 01/03/2019 17:27

Volvos! A bit cheaper than the bmw/mercs/Audis especially on Lease deals. Really comfy and their suvs are great. If you want a small suv I'd say the xc40/xc60 will probably more comfortable than the bmw equivalent (these are designed for driving dynamics = hard suspension) and cheaper than the merc.
Ideally you want a car with air suspension as this is the most comfortable.

If you want value for money I'd look at the larger saloons and estates as these price better than suvs. You might find the v90cc rides high enough for suv style seating. (The v90 is my next car in a few months!)

LoopyLu2019 · 01/03/2019 17:36

@sinisterbumfacedcat yes - pretty much any car. As a former Vauxhall owner almost anything (not french) is more comfy.

Something cheap would be a skoda fabia. Then VW golf would be more comfy.

If you want cheap and fuel efficient look at a hybrid yaris but hybrids are expensive if they go wrong.

QuestionableMouse · 02/03/2019 10:47

My Fabia is way less comfortable than my Zafira!

Chewbecca · 02/03/2019 10:48

Jag

LoopyLu2019 · 02/03/2019 18:04

@questionablemouse yes but a zafira is a bigger car it isn't right to compare it to a Fabia. You can't compare a super mini classified car (fabia) to an mpv. The pp asked for something similar to the Corsa. When compared to other cars in their classifications Vauxhalls often are pretty poor even just in their price range.
