If you take supplements, which ones and why please? I'm perimenopausal, recent blood tests indicate thyroid etc are ok.
Thanks!

Hello indigo. I'm 43 and think I am peri menopausal also. I've started taking oil of evening primrose which has really helped with breast tenderness and also the a-z vitamins and minerals, I've found its helped my anxiety and sleep a little.

megletthesecond · 28/02/2019 18:54

Just a basic multi vit and mineral.
I always forget to take evening primrose oil.

Thecrown3 · 28/02/2019 18:56

I’m 43 - earlier last year diagnosed borderline thyroid issue, possibly peri, but amazingly I had zero vit d... this was amazing because I work outside and it had been longest/sunniest summer ever!!

So now am on prescribed vit d dose but after chatting to a specialist most ppl should be on 1500 mg a day of vit d.
I then take 1000mg of vit b
Same of vit c
And 400 mg of magnesium.( if you take vit d , you must take magnesium to balance it)

This is the best I’ve ever felt through winter in a long time.. also my s.a.d symptoms have been lowest!!

haverhill · 28/02/2019 19:00

Biotin
Gentle iron
Cod liver oil with Vits A and D
Black Cohosh

Theknacktoflying · 28/02/2019 19:04

Omega 3 -
Hair, nails and skin supplement
Berocca when needing a pick up.

I know that medical advice says there is no benefit to taking any supplements on priviso that there is a balanced diet, (expensive wee) but it makes me feel better knowing I am getting some vitamins. The only caveat is Vit D ...

IndigoDream · 28/02/2019 19:07

Thanks everyone, there are some interesting ideas here that I'll look into. Sorry to hear you're also experiencing the joys of perimenopausal anxiety and rage! I had wondered whether vit D may help. I didn't know about magnesium, thanks.

I'm starting to feel my age (late 40s) with perimenopausal stuff, tiredness, weight gain etc. I'm sure lifestyle is a factor but if supplements can help, I'd like to give them a go.

Multi vit
Magnesium
Vitamin D
Biotin

Awrite · 28/02/2019 19:13

I also didn't know about the magnesium. Will look into, thanks.

I take:

Evening Primrose oil, with vit E - recommended by breast surgeon to treat pain. It works.

Vit B12 - blood text showed lowish level.

Vit D - as everyone in this country should.

Vit C - I like the effervescent tablets.

I'm 43. My periods have recently become lighter and much less painful. Touchwood.

shinyNewPound · 28/02/2019 19:34

Vit B12 in the morning
Vit D at lunch time
Iron and magnesium in the evening.

Last year I took an A-Z and my hair and nails really showed it - grew beautifully - but I was concerned about things like copper in it. Not seen a notable positive difference with my new regime except my wee is bright yellow (vit B12 is the culprit apparently).

Thecrown3 · 28/02/2019 19:47

If you google vitamin d and magnesium there’s lots of info but my pharmacist explained better than doctor.something to do with vit d calcifying if body short of vit d, because it was short .

Thecrown3 · 28/02/2019 19:51

P.s I’ve also lost 7lb and it’s going down each week, something to do with hormones and vit d shortage, makes you eat more

DareDevil223 · 28/02/2019 20:02

Vitamin D and magnesium. I sleep so much better now that I'm taking magnesium.

Babygrey7 · 28/02/2019 20:05

I don't take supplements

It would make me lazy about food

So I need to eat a balanced diet instead Grin, more fun (and tasty)

Misty9 · 28/02/2019 20:11

I'm late 30s but loads of problems with hormone related issues. I take a women's health supplement (asda and wilkos) which has all the vits like D B and C but also evening primrose oil and starflower etc. I have had tests showing low vit D and iron so might add floradix to that too. Interesting about magnesium - I'm prescribed that to try and minimise migraines. It just annoys me that women are expected to self manage and self medicate as the NHS thresholds are so flipping low before they'd advise/intervene but quality of life can be hugely affected Confused

BBTHREE76 · 01/03/2019 08:02

Sorry to hijack but I have a similar question - I am over 40 and I want to get some vitamins but I am taking anti depressants (Sertraline) and have a Mirena coil. Friends have said supplements will clash and affect both of these. Is anyone in the same position and found a good supplement to take alongside?

aurynne · 01/03/2019 08:29

None. I had no idea taking supplements after 40 was a thing!

DinaCaliente · 01/03/2019 09:29

Just Menopace and when my IBS flares up Prebiotics and Magnesium.

Delatron · 01/03/2019 10:35

You can’t get enough vitamin D from sunlight Oct-April in this country and not enough from food so even if you take no other supplements you really should take vitamin D (with magnesium).

Deficient is linked to whole host of conditions..

Delatron · 01/03/2019 10:36
