Does anyone else BLUSH really easily? I hate it!

HoHoHolyCow · 28/02/2019 16:52

I've always had this problem and it's really getting me down. I blush at the slightest thing! Proper hot face, red cheeks and nose.

It generally happens if something slightly unexpected happens - e.g. meeting someone I vaguely know in the supermarket (I'm fine if I know them well?!), someone at work wanting to discuss shift changes etc.

It doesn't happen every time, and I can go for ages without it happening, but once I've blushed once, it then happens over and over again that day! I suppose because I suddenly get conscious of it and it makes it worse.

Does anyone else have this? What can I do to help??

Yes and then some idiot ‘helpfully’ says “You’re blushing” as if you didn’t know and causing you to blush more Angry

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 28/02/2019 16:54

Yes. It's awful and I have no idea if there's anything you can do about it

GunpowderGelatine · 28/02/2019 16:55

Yes me. I blush when I'm not even embarrassed or feeling awkward. I have looked into getting surgery to stop it, but it's quite pricey

HoHoHolyCow · 28/02/2019 16:56

Argh, yes, when people point it out!! As if I didn't know! It does make it so much worse.

I've recently started a new job and spent most of today blushing. Despite being fine last week and the week before?! So irritating!

Yes me too! I also get red-faced very quickly when exercising. Not sure if that is related.

idril · 28/02/2019 16:57

Yes I do and I appear to have passed this delightful trait onto my children - poor things!!

HoHoHolyCow · 28/02/2019 16:57

I definitely would not be able to afford surgery at the minute Sad

What does it involve Gunpowder ?

Yes, I get the red exercise face too. Joys.

I sympathise, as I suffer from this too. I've learned to ignore it as far as I can, and it has got a little better as a result. People stop noticing after a while.

Might be worth talking to the doc., in case there's something else making it worse.

BobLemon · 28/02/2019 17:00

Yep. I’m quite a confident person, but I still go red as soon as I start talking in a meeting (which is unhelpful, as I have to chair a monthly meeting), interacting with suppliers or clients. Oh god, I have to negotiate as part of my job, which I avoid going faceto face obviously. But also eating = red. Alcohol = red. Walking quickly = red. The DCs point it out every time.

MaddieElla · 28/02/2019 17:00

Yep. I don’t blush though, my whole face feels like a furnace and I look like a tomato.

It usually happens when I’m out of my comfort zone, or not controlling a situation ie if someone puts me on the spot in a room full of people I don’t know. Or, weirdly, if I say something and it gets the attention of everyone in the room.

I feel like mines so bad I want to actually hide my face, but I never can in the situations it happens in. Wow.

GunpowderGelatine · 28/02/2019 17:00

Essentially, the surgery is that the blood vessels in your face are cut OP! So you can't physically blush anymore.

It's been a while since I looked into it, I think it was around the £4K mark plus expenses for travelling and staying away etc. CBT can help apparently

RoryLeighGilmore · 28/02/2019 17:00

I get this too.

What I've found to help me was wearing more foundation than I normally would so that any redness wouldn't be so visible, which then took the mental worrying part of it away. Now I've programmed my brain to (mostly) think I won't appear red (even with no makeup on) and just being less stressed about it means it happens so much less.

MaddieElla · 28/02/2019 17:01

Woe, even. Hmm

Skylucy · 28/02/2019 17:02

Oh god, I'm famous for it. I've looked into surgery too. To be fair, it bothers me less now I'm 35, but it almost destroyed me at school!! I would be much more confident if it didn't happen, and I'd probably like exercise (I go so red with any exercise, and it doesn't calm down for hours). I even blush when I open the door to anyone who knocks (why, for god's sake?!) I do find that some times are worse than others - perhaps it's hormonal? I'm going through a not-too-bad phase now, hurrah. It gets me down, but I try to remember that there are many worse afflictions! Praying I haven't passed it to my kids. If I have, I will NEVER make a big deal of it. I still get upset thinking how my mum used to point it out!!

HoHoHolyCow · 28/02/2019 17:06

Cutting the blood vessels in my face! Ouch!!

Yes, I go red after once glass of wine. Or when I eat spicy food.

I don't tend to wear foundation as my skin is generally ok. I do have some colour correction BB cream (CC cream?!) that I need to dig out again. It's green, but turns skin coloured when it goes on. I wear it for nights out to stop the red-nose-and-cheeks effect but might start using it for work.

If I'm prepared for a situation I am usually fine. I've given conference presentations etc while staying nice and pale. But then someone will stop me to talk about it afterwards and I'm like a tomato!

It puts me off exercising too Skylucy. I feel like I look really unfit (which I suppose I am now, but I didn't used to be!)

Busytizzy · 28/02/2019 17:28

Me too! And I'm a teacher so whenever it happens I have 25 5-year-olds to helpfully tell me "you're face has gone really red!" Blush

HoHoHolyCow · 28/02/2019 17:33

I just read the NHS pages on blushing and it says the surgery that's available can lead to long-term side effects such as excessive sweating! I already sweat more than normal! So that'll be a big no from me!

Helpmytrousershavesplit · 28/02/2019 17:36

Same problem here and admit I go running with make up on!
A damn good concealer and foundation means I'm more mentally confident in my 'armour' and less likely to worry about blushing which is half the problem with me!

MissionItsPossible · 28/02/2019 17:39

I don’t know if this is related and will stop the redness in blushing but if it’s from a result of your face being hot, a temporary solution is to squirt a handful of aloe Vera gel into the palm of your hand and mix it with ice cold water then you can put it on your face and it’s like a face mask. I find that when cool air hits it it turns your face cold. It’s not a cure but useful to apply before a meeting or presentation.

HoHoHolyCow · 28/02/2019 17:40

I think I'm going to try a bit more makeup Help, at least until I've settled in a bit more and know everyone a bit better!

It's rosacea and while there are treatments they're not always that effective.

Best to identify your triggers and avoid them.

I have it and it's very annoying.

Margot33 · 28/02/2019 17:44

I used to be terrible for blushing. It was triggered by anxiety and low self esteem. Since practising meditation and reiki I have not blushed for the longest time, possibly a year?! Meditation helps quiet the negative thoughts in the mind. Reiki helped me to feel good and genuinely beautiful inside and out.

todaywasafairytale · 28/02/2019 17:45

I literally could have written this. People who point it out are the worst!!

What kind of skin do you all have? Mines is dry she I'm wondering if it's related?
