Inspiration for being spontaneous this weekend **Thread tite edited at OP's request**

I'm sure I'm missing the point here, even still, I'd love some suggestions Smile

We are all in kind of a rut here and we have the entire weekend free for once. I'm not expecting our world to be rocked Grin
I want to take advantage of this, and go and have some fun, however that might be.

If it's relevant, as it probably will be, we are 5 - including 2 primary DC, and a teen.

I hadn't finished before posting, sorry.

I was just going to add that I'd been looking, and was starting to bore myself, as my spontaneous isn't really spontaneously exciting enough, not to me anyhow, IYSWIM? Grin

Hence asking on here.

Seaside? (if you are landlocked)
Mountain/Hill region? (if in a flatland)
Day trip to France or Amsterdam or similar?

IMAX experience?

Be a tourist in your own town?

Get in the car and each person gets to decide the next turning or junction in turn?

Let the children dictate the whole food intake for the weekend and no refusals allowed?

palomapear · 28/02/2019 11:47

Where are you based?

PoppingBubbles · 28/02/2019 11:54

palomapear We're based in the South East.

The kids would love the food suggestion buzzbobbly. I like the direction one, DH and I sometimes do that with a coin flip app Blush We end up in some random places. The DC would like that too I think, although without the app.

Ah, maybe I messed up my title.

Any more ideas would be lovely. Smile

Any buses in the area? If so, could you go to the terminus on one, then jump on one you've never been on and see where it goes? Either go to the end of the line, or agree you'll jump off somewhere that looks interesting.

Do an alphabet journey - find places starting with each letter of the alphabet and visit them in order. Or in the shortest possible distance.

PoppingBubbles · 28/02/2019 18:57

Time - yes, we have a few buses here. Going to the end of the line sounds interesting for the kids.

Write some things you’d each like to do on slips of paper, put them in a large bowl, then each have a turn at a lucky dip to see what you will do that morning and afternoon.

AdaColeman · 01/03/2019 00:32

Get a map or atlas of your local area and let the littlest child stick a pin in to spot where you will visit.

stayathomer · 01/03/2019 00:34

I'd say a hike of some sort, followed by your favourite meal and a movie with popcorn

AdaColeman · 01/03/2019 00:38

Write down historic periods and geographic features that are represented in your area and have a lucky dip to see where you will visit, maybe a Roman villa or Elizabethan house, or a lake or estuary.

AdaColeman · 01/03/2019 00:41

Follow part of the route that the pilgrims took in the Canterbury Tales.

I second the idea of jumping on a bus ( or train ) most bus company's do a family daysaver kind of thing so it won't cost you a bomb .
Also take a picnic / snack to eat in a park beach or wherever you are.

Don't take loads tho you don't want to be lugging soggy sandwiches around all day.

I did a Google search of things to do in home town during half term. I was surprised to discover a ww11 RAF underground bunker/command station. So we packed a lunch, got the bus down & spent all afternoon there. I wasn't surprised that I'd never heard of it, it was classified information until the 80's.

Give the kids a certain sum of money, take them to the supermarket and put them in charge of choosing and buying what you need for one of the meals. Depending on ages, they could cook it too!

DS's scout group had to do this, with the added complication that it had to be cooked on a trangia, of course!
