3yo old constantly coughing - what to do?

He's fine during the day but has woken up and is now coughing almost non-stop.

He's had inhalers and calpol. He's been full of cold for 3-4 weeks now.

I don't want to over-react & take him to A&E (although we went with similar symptoms previously and ended up on the nebuliser), but also don't want to under-react .

Any thoughts on the best plan of action?

They often cough more of a night. Coughs are often the gift that keeps on giving and will go on and on. That said, if he can't settle tonight or is worse than he has been then I'd call 111. How is his breathing in between coughs?

You can try and elevate the head end of his bed if possible as that helps to shift any mucous.

Im not 111's biggest fan if im honest so if i were really worried i would get myself along to OOH or A&E rather than wait around for call backs.

Thanks! He's breathing is snotty/congested but I don't think he's struggling. I think one of us will sleep in with him to be on the safe side.

You can buy nebulisers in Boots I think op. Maybe ask the pharmacist for advice. It might help clear the congestion for him?

Vicks on the soles of his feet and socks on. Sounds odd but it does work

Just coughing at night is his asthma. If your normal inhalers aren't working, I would go to the doctor.
