Unfortunately no holiday for us this year as we are saving for a house (we have no dc yet!)

I am holiday obsessed and love having something to look forward to especially during bad days at work 'oh well only * days until my jollies!'

Anyway! I would loveeee to go to Florida with my dp and go round the theme parks before little dc come along hopefully in the next couple of years....would if be far too early to book it for April next year.? (So 14 months in advance) can you even book flights this early in advance?!

We usually book holidays 6-8 months before we go!

How long in advance do you normally book a holiday?

We book our main one as soon as we come back from the last main one, especially if we want a villa. The best ones get booked up quickly.
Others we book closer to the time

So we booked our two week villa holiday in June at the end of June last year. We've just booked a city long weekend break for Easter and have just booked a week in September. We are hoping for another week in the Canaries over the winter but will probably book that in the summer. There will only be the two of us on that one and it will be easier to co - ordinate and/or we will be less fussy.

I think for the states you can book more than a year in advance but I'm not sure.

We usually book about 6 weeks in advance for our main holiday.
This time around we booked in October for an August holiday.
It all depends on when the airlines release flights too.

MinnieMountain · 27/02/2019 16:43

Usually 12-14 months in advance. Even if it's the UK (like this year), if we see a place we really like we will book it.

I love planning holidays too!

Chickaletta16 · 27/02/2019 16:48

I've just booked for a holiday for.me and the kids in August.

Bluebeanz · 27/02/2019 16:49

Florida takes a lot of planning, both times we went we booked over a year in advance. Look at the forums of thedibb.co.uk there’s loads of info on there about planning and everything Florida

youngfreeandnotsingle · 27/02/2019 16:56

We booked ours for this year 12 months in advance but usually depends on how much we're spending, if it's an expensive holiday like your sounds like it's going to be, then best to book earlier and it gives you more time to plan and budget for spending money etc Smile

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 27/02/2019 16:59

About a week, give or take 😁

crosspelican · 27/02/2019 17:00

We book the day the flights are released on Easyjet, so Easter and Summer were booked in September.

anniehm · 27/02/2019 17:02

It depends, ive booked ferries in the autumn for the following summer to secure cabins on the long routes, but we've also booked 5 days beforehand. Currently debating whether to book now or wait and see if prices drop!

NWQM · 27/02/2019 17:03

We are virtually sorted for breaks up to next April. We only get breaks plural because I commit us so far in advance. Waiting to book always seemed to mean that big job needed finishing, x needed buying etc but this way we do find the cash. Flights for were we want next April - as in 2020 - are only just out.

juneau · 27/02/2019 17:06

I tend to book 6-12 months in advance, mainly because we have to travel in school holidays, which means peak season, peak prices and lots of competition for accommodation.

As for Florida, it's a good idea to start researching early and checking out prices and budgeting, because it's an expensive holiday and you don't want to get there and realise all the things you'd like to do, but didn't book and now there's no availability. I'd start looking at the many Florida parks threads on Long Haul travel and if you have specific questions that aren't already answered, then ask away, as there are lots of Orlando experts on MN.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 27/02/2019 17:15

As we’re not tied to school holidays yet for a long haul trip we try to take advantage of airline sales to get a good deal. Then we’d book the accommodation. Usually we’d do about 3-4 months in advance for a big trip but if it’s shorthaul we’re pretty spontaneous and tend to book about a month or less before we go.

PQ77 · 27/02/2019 17:17

12 months

EdWinchester · 27/02/2019 17:18

We never book anything far in advance. Usually about 3 weeks before we go.

happymummy12345 · 27/02/2019 17:19

We've never had a holiday, not even gone away in the uk. We didn't even have a honeymoon.
But wanted to say Florida theme parks are brilliant. I've been twice with my aunt and my brother. Loved it

Sirzy · 27/02/2019 17:19

Every other year we go on a cruise with my parents. We book as soon as they come out (need two adapted cabins) so our April 2020 holiday was booked about April 2018

MissCalamity · 27/02/2019 18:29

I booked our main holiday 14 months in advance! Saw that 2019 holidays were out in March 2018, with 0% direct debit so booked it! Already looking out for 2020 holidays now Grin

expatmigrant · 27/02/2019 18:39

We are very last minute. Going to Miami next week and only booked hotel last night. Any city breaks in Europe maybe two weeks before we go. Planning on Vietnam in October and will probably start looking at stuff in the summer. Does backfire a little when booking ski holidays as often can't get what I want and have to make do.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 27/02/2019 18:42

Usually way in advance (eg in August for May). But this year because of a combination of Brexit and ds GCSEs, we have only just booked now for a few days away in July.

Camellia5 · 27/02/2019 18:42

I book ours in the first week of January every year.
It's the only way I can cope with those January blues Confused

Chocolatecheeks111 · 27/02/2019 20:29

Looks like I can't buy flights yet doh!

I booked our Easter holiday last April (we wanted a villa with particular features). I booked our Christmas holiday about a month ago- BA were having a sale which made it very affordable.

I love planning holidays too!
