UK Break recommendations for 10yr anniversary - Please help me!

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a minibreak for the end of March? We will have the 2 DCs with us (7 and 12).

Before someone suggests to google - I have tried.
Truth be told, we never had a honeymoon as we couldn't afford it at the time, and we've not had a holiday in 10 yrs as I seem to develop some sort of blocker with the holiday websites and cant seem to navigate them.

I would just like us to have a few days break (£500-£600) in the UK - South East preferably - which has got a bit of a wow factor or something special to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary.

Am I asking the impossible? Please help me!

Anything suitable on here?

I always use tripadviser before making a decision.

What is more important- location being wow or accommodation? You might be able to find a caravan with a hot tub near the beach for that.

Cinderbelly · 27/02/2019 17:10

Hi both,

For 'wow' factor I guess I meant memorable. As I said we didn't have a honeymoon, never really been on holiday... DH is worse than me, and I feel like if I don't book something now then our anniversary will be fish and chips and a DVD Sad

I can't explain why the websites make me so jittery but I can't see to follow them.
That secret escapes website above has so many options I feel massively overwhelmed. I'm usually very capable really.

How about the North Norfolk coast- big sand dunes and big skies.

These are gorgeous and the location is wonderful.

Cinderbelly · 28/02/2019 07:27

autu have you stayed there before?
They look lovely in the summer but I'm not sure if end of March is the right weather to stay right next to the sea what with the wind and high likely hood of rain...

So why not get your husband to sort it out then?

It could rain anywhere, not just on the coast. Or it could be lovely and sunny.

Really, OP, if you want people to make suggestions, then give us some decent starting points. So now we know you don't want the coast. Do you want a city break then? Because there aren't many of those in the South East which you've said is your preference (note to previous poster, North Norfolk is definitely not the South East). What do you want to DO on this holiday? Just snuggle up in a nice room then go downstairs for a nice meal, or go for long walks, or visit theatres etc?

If you like history how about Winchester? Beautiful city with lots of interesting buildings.

Or if you're more into activities how about staying in the midst of the New Forest for lots of countryside, activities and cosy pub lunches?

MinnieMountain · 28/02/2019 13:46

It was glorious on the North Norfolk coast last weekend. I've also seen heavy rain there in July.

Hollowvictory · 28/02/2019 13:49

I think a few days for several people with wow factor for £600 could be tricky. Would you consider center parcs? Otherwise check a cottage website

Autu · 01/03/2019 00:28

Yes OP I have stayed there for 3 nights. It rained and I still loved it. Going back in the Easter holidays. Naturally I am crossing my fingers for blue skies and crisp dry weather but I would be doing that going anywhere in the South East of England.

MinnieMountain · 01/03/2019 06:09

Is there somewhere that's special to you and your DH?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/03/2019 06:28

How about the genteel attractive town of Tunbridge Wells? From there you could easily get to both Hever castle and Chartwell (Winston Churchill Family Home, national trust), bedgebury forest which has a go ape, Eastbourne or other coastal towns, and London is around an hour by train.

Mumberjack · 01/03/2019 08:55

If you fancy travelling to Scotland then Seton Sands is a holiday park near Edinburgh. You’d get affordable accommodation and there are loads of cheap buses to take you into the capital to do all the touristy things. And if the weathers nice you’ve got a beach.

ShatnersWig · 01/03/2019 08:58

The OP says South East preferably

Recent suggestions include North Norfolk and Scotland.

As the late great Sir Terry Wogan frequently said "Is it me?"

Etino · 01/03/2019 09:14

This is very special- Port Lympne wildlife park with accommodation.
You can call them up with your dates and budget, they’re lovely.

ChristineBaskets · 01/03/2019 10:37

I love Forest Holidays for minibreaks with dcs. You could get one with a hot tub in a lovely location, that would be quite memorable.

Cinderbelly · 06/03/2019 17:15

Thanks everyone and I'm sorry if my vagueness made things difficult!

There were some great suggestions here Thankyou all xxx

@etino Thankyou very much I have booked a night at Port Lympne GrinFlowersBear
