Do you know anything about this marmalade jar?

Boring post alert!

I just picked this jar up for 50p at the charity shop, it will make a nice container for pens.

I’ve been looking online to try to date it, because it really doesn’t look that old, but I can’t find the exact same one anywhere. Does anyone know anything about old jars?

It’s stamped underneath ‘Pot made in England’.

(It’s not worth anything, I know that much - I just like it!)

There's something similar on ebay: www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/marmalade-pot

My Mum had one like that she used for collecting dripping!

No idea how old, but I think they were mass produced in large numbers.

Metric weight wouldn’t have been on a really old container would it? 1960s was when it started I believe.

Towards the end of this article it says that glass jars with metal lids were introduced in 1928, and the ceramics then used for exports.

Yes that’s what I was thinking wave, but I can’t find any evidence that they were producing these any time recently. Hence my confusion.

Most of the ones I saw on eBay were clearly much older. I think this one might have been produced for export but I’m just surprised at the lack of info available. Normally the internet is a wealth of useless information Grin

this is vintage but not that old, grammes together with pounds not really used before 1970's older would only have pounds anything more recent would only have grams
also made in England on base but made in united kingdom on front again suggest this period of very late 60's to about early 1980's at most 50p- £2.50 is a fair price even antique victorian ones rarely make more than £15 for something to be worth more it needs original lid

I have one, probably 60's or 70's as my mother got it originally, although some of the jars we have were 50's or earlier. I have a selection of the old stoneware jars and some still have lables on.

I also have a French Moutarde jar that is similar but smaller. I much prefer the old things to the modern copies of old things.
