Can you do a handstand?

I have no idea why, maybe because my children are becoming interested in this sort of thing, but it occurred to me today that it must be 15 years since I did a handstand. Im 41, not very fit and I'm a bit scared to try! Am I a wimp?

Just tried - yes I can! And a headstand (a bit wobbly). Impressed with myself Grin

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 25/02/2019 22:37

Yes. Got a nice photo of me and dd doing handstands together.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 25/02/2019 22:37

No, but I can plank.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 25/02/2019 22:38

I would probably knock my teeth out with my boobs or do some other serious damage to myself these days if I tried.

stayathomer · 25/02/2019 22:40

Tried recently, had to really push myself to give it a go (so yadnbu) which may have been a sign, didn't even get a bit of the way up, was gutted cos could do one after second child but tghings have obviously fallen apart since then!

Nnnnnineteen · 25/02/2019 22:43

I tried. Fractured my wrist and got a massive bruise on my forehead. Drink was involved. I used to be so good...

LuluBellaBlue · 25/02/2019 22:46

Yes Grin
I recently shared a snap of me doing one on a holiday, and someone commented they were amazed I could do one..... not sure if it was due to age or size they were so surprised and didn’t dare ask Confused

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 25/02/2019 22:47

I can't get up into a handstand, if I try..

However, once upside down, my proudest moment was a one-handed version, up against a wall. Mid-forties, bit fat, very happy!

ShadyLady53 · 25/02/2019 22:48

I don’t think so, not since I was about six!

SmarmyMrMime · 25/02/2019 22:50

I can still headstand against a wall.
Never could do handstands without support.

Sparrowlegs248 · 25/02/2019 22:52

@Nnnnnineteen that's my fear!! Serious injury. Equally, I don't want to be fat boring mum. I'm wondering how to build up to it?

I've started working out again, that's a good start strength wise I suppose. It's the whole balance and general athletic ability I'm lacking!

They do handstand classes in my city! Look on YouTube for tutorials. And probably yoga would help.

Sparrowlegs248 · 25/02/2019 23:05

Yes I thought yoga might help. Thanks I'll look at YouTube!

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2019 23:07

Nope. I couldn't do them even as a child. I was always too long, gangly and uncoordinated, with no athletic ability whatsoever Sad

LifeCasting · 25/02/2019 23:08

Nope!

PickAChew · 25/02/2019 23:08

Never been able to. Hypermobile and could never support my weight on my shoulders.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 25/02/2019 23:13

Yes!!!!! (Way too proud of that!). Now I feel I should do then regularly to prolong my handstanding life.

ShadyLady53 · 25/02/2019 23:15

I can’t believe I’ve only just figured out why I struggled so much with them @PickaChew - I’m also hyper-mobile. My arms and shoulder sockets flip right round whenever they bloody feel like it. I don’t feel as lazy now Grin.

SpoonBlender · 25/02/2019 23:16

I can't. I just fold. I can plank, do pushups, even pullups, but can't do a handstand.

CarrieBlu · 25/02/2019 23:20

I’ve never been able to do one. These days I use my hyper mobility as my excuse, but the reality is I never even tried as a youngster, every time I went to have a go I would suddenly be filled with the fear of really hurting myself. Which I definitely would have!

GreenDinosaur · 25/02/2019 23:37

Yes, badly but my arms ache like hell the next day. Age is catching up with me!

I can stand on my head pretty well though Grin
