Reformer Pilates..how much?!

QueenOfIce · 25/02/2019 20:20

£35 per session to be precise. So if I want to do a class more than once a week I need to be filthy rich.

Why does it cost so much? Machines and their maintenance perhaps but still. £35?! Shock

Not in the NW by any chance? I had to go for a sit down after considering taking classes in Liverpool, to recover from the shock Grin

Better off buying your own reformer and some dvds.

If you're near West Lothian, my ex-teacher is selling one...

£80 one to one in W London. I don’t go.

Big classes (10) are £27 unless you pay for lots up front, comes down to £17 if you pay for 3 a week for a year at once.

thecatneuterer · 25/02/2019 20:26

Yes but the cost of things is about much more than how much it has cost the seller. It's far more to do with demand and supply. Presumably demand is quite high and, because it uses machines, each class will need to be quite a bit smaller than your average non-machine class, as they need a lot of space per person.

I tried it for about 20 sessions, but I'm not convinced it's much better than the mat-based classes.

If you live in London, Reformer Pilates classes cost £18-20 at Frame. No idea why people would pay £35.

My reformer classes are £17 per class with a discount if you buy a block of 5 or 10.

QueenOfIce · 25/02/2019 20:33

I'm nowhere near London, perhaps it's quite niche in my area. It's £7 per mat based class. I love reformer, I wonder if my dh would notice if the garage became my reformer studio. Grin

£38.00 where I live. Perhaps the people teaching it have had to do very expensive training? In the end, I was not interested enough to find out. Is it taught 1 to 1?

BigGreenOlives · 25/02/2019 20:44

Training with Stott takes quite a long time and they require you to have continued professional development each year if you want to be a Stott Pilates Instructor. I think the short courses allow you to teach group classes in a particular style and cost £2-3k iirc.

Daylight robbery!

BigGreenOlives · 26/02/2019 07:47

I just looked, for an 8 day course, teaching dynamic Reformer Pilates Ten charge either £1350 (early bird) or £1750. The course includes 10 classes.

ElspethFlashman · 26/02/2019 07:51

I live in Ireland and its €40 here. I imagine a lot of people go once then never again.

It's a shame as I'd really like to try it. But no way at that price.

Willowdenedixon · 26/02/2019 09:21

It’s £15 per class where I am, and gets progressively cheaper if you buy bigger bundles of 5/10/20 class passes. The only places that offer it are in very naice areas, so I imagine that pushes up the price too. Have seen it for £30 a class locally, but that one is run by a physio
If I had the space I’d be tempted to get my own machine. I do love it, but limit myself to once a week/fortnight depending how flush I’m feeling.
