Wow - in praise of my GP surgery

To be fair I have never had a bad experience with my surgery, but today they excelled themselves.

I’ve had a problem for about a month or more, so not urgent, but finally even I agree it needed checking.

I Phoned this morning in the allotted slot to book appointments and said I would happily take any time in the next fortnight.

I got offered any time I wanted tomorrow morning, even my preferred slot of 8.30am to get it out of the way before work.

How amazing is that for service?

Sounds good, I'm going in tomorrow. I went by last week to see if they could fit me in with an ongoing thing. She offered me a choice of three times over this week. I love my surgery too.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 25/02/2019 20:32

Ours our usually pretty good. Phone on day but obviously you won't see the dr of your choice if last minute.

DD was complaining of earache and muffled hearing in one ear 4 days before we were due to get on a long haul flight. I rang and explained at 4pm and we were seeing a doctor by 4.45.

He couldn't see anything wrong (which was a relief but at the same time frustrating as I was terrified I'd wasted their time). I usually get pretty good service anyway but this blew me away.

Ours is also good IF you can get through on the phone. Once I am through I've always been offered a same or next day appointment and they make a point of seeing children as quickly as possible.

Oh and the receptionist are really nice!! I sometimes read Mumsnet threads about doctor receptionists and wondered if ours were all off sick the days they run courses on "how to be rude to patients" "how to make things difficult and complicated" "how to be insensitive" and "how to pretend you're actually a doctor"

Fluffyears · 25/02/2019 21:02

Ours has online appointment booking....gamechanger!

TheFrogsLegs · 25/02/2019 21:38

Oh yes, our receptionists are lovely

Mine is brilliant and the receptionists are v lovely and always try to accommodate wherever possible. Plus the doctors are great and very kind. I am v lucky.

I have been spoken to rather rudely by 2 receptionists (one of whom then proceeded to be so gushingly charming to my handsome DH I'm surprised she didn't simply get on all fours in front of him) at our massive, 4-locations medical practice, and they dithered a bit about some notes that my insurer asked for - but otherwise in every respect they have been absolutely faultless, I have been seriously impressed at their speed and efficiency (particularly the way their system works, its brilliant as long as you call at the correct time).

I think we can voice our gratitude and praise on the NHS site can't we? It must be nice for them to get positive feedback rather than endless complaints.

Al2O3 · 25/02/2019 21:54

I cannot thank them enough. By far the best of our emergency services. Why only the other day I was knocked down by a motorist in a 30 mph zone while being chased by a police car. Within three minutes the NHS sent out an ambulance to pick me up. Not only that but they didn't hang around and got me to the hospital in less than five minutes and took me straight to the top of the queue. You would not get that in Borneo.

TheFrogsLegs · 25/02/2019 22:02

Wow, hope you are okay now.

Our Drs surgery is amazing and our receptionists appear to be able to magic appointments out of thin air when you really need them, particularly for small children.
Interesting you mention Borneo AI2O3 I loved it there but the medical care would indeed make me wary of going back with 2 small DCs, the NHS is amazing.

happypotamus · 25/02/2019 23:12

I am very grateful for the NHS with free GP appointments this week. I had to cancel my dentist appointment this week because I can't afford to pay for it until after pay day. Fortunately, I didn't have to cancel my GP appointment that is booked on the same day.
Also, the GPs at my surgery are very nice, patient and understanding, and it is not usually a complete nightmare to an appointment. If you are ringing for a child, they seem to magic up appointments to get them seen.

smurfy2015 · 26/02/2019 04:18

My GP surgery is brilliant, ring at 9 and almost always can get seen on the day, its a 3 dr surgery with 2 max there at same time.

Waves to Marie, the practice manager who Im guessing is a MNer as I heard her say to someone one day " did you mean to be so rude?"
